Introducing a must-have telescope filter for any astrophotographer that doesn’t happen to live on Mauna Kea. With the Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter you can take incredible deep-sky images under light-polluted skies with your CCD or DSLR camera. That’s because Orion custom designed the filter to selectively block the specific wavelengths of light associated with urban sky glow, letting the light emitted from deep-sky objects shine through. You’ll see a marked increase in image contrast for all types of deep sky objects, even faint galaxies, which typically are suppressed through visual light pollution filters.

By blocking up to 99% transmission of the offending wavelengths, the Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Telescope Filter enables longer exposure times without background saturation. Because the white light spectrum remains largely intact, the color balance of the image is not affected, eliminating the need for corrective processing later.

The improvement in contrast achieved with the Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter is remarkable. Just look at the filtered and unfiltered actual image examples below:

Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Telescope Filter Comparison

With this telescope filter you can take long-exposure photographs of faint galaxies, nebulas, and star clusters from a light-polluted city, or from a suburban backyard brightened by a nearby street lamp. Your images will turn out better than you ever thought possible.

The Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter has a threaded aluminum cell and is available in 1.25" and 2" sizes. This 1.25" filter threads into the nosepiece of our StarShoot CCD and similar cameras. The 2" filter fits Orion 2" accessories, including the 2" Zero-Profile camera Adapter that couples a DSLR camera body with T-ring to a 2" focuser.

Don’t let light pollution spoil your deep-sky images! Get an Orion SkyGlow Astrophotography Filter today and enjoy vivid, high-contrast astrophotos – from anywhere!

Photographing the stars is somewhat a chore using a DSLR in the City---Not only do you have to contend with the light pollution from the area, but you also have a limited amount of time before Light Pollution comes into play, which even though removed thru processing, is STILL a headache! That is, until you use THIS particular filter. I tested the filter on M57 last night, and was completely surprised at the quality of the image---even at short exposure--- from using this filter. I'd HIGHLY recommend that if you use a DSLR in your imaging (ESPECIALLY the Nikon series of DSLR's) that THIS particular filter be part of your kit, even if you're lucky enough to have darker skies than what we have here in Sacramento! Although the night became somewhat foggy early in the morning and cut my imaging time short, I've still come out with some of the best images of the Ring Nebula that one could wish for, and will forward the comparison photos to Orion for posting! I am rather quite pleased with the results, and thank Orion for bringing this filter to the market!

I've been a visual observer from my backyard for years and recently started DSLR astrophotography. Results in my light polluted (19 miles north of Philadelphia) location were not good. No changes in exposure times or camera setting were able to give a good balance between the inevitable skyglow and the object imaged. Santa heard me complaining about this problem and brought me one of these filters. And yet another miracle from Orion. Three minute exposure of M42 is indescribable and comparative picture with and without the filter speak for themselves. Objects are bright and colors are accurate but the background sky in my astrophotos is jet black. Great job folks.

Another miracle. I had written a review of your Ultrablock filter some months ago. As I stated then, in the face of rapidly mounting light pollution in my suburban Philadelphia location, you literally gave me back the night sky. I recently expanded my life-long passion for astronomy into the realm of astrophotography. To be sure I'd get off on the right foot, I went to Kitt Peak, AZ, for their Advanced Observer's Program and the opportunity to see what kind of results I could expect using my Canon 20d DSLR under ideal conditions. Needless to say, expert instruction, top quality instruments, and a dark (to say the very least!)sky gave me textbook quality pictures. I took my knowledge and camera home and coupled it to my 10" SCT. My original results were underwhelming, to say the least. Very bright sky background and even with my h-Alpha filter, since my camera is also used for other photography, results were less than I'd have expected. With no filters, I just had bright skyglow, and indistinct lost-in-the-glow targets. Very disappointing. Fortunately, I saw your new Skyglow Astrophotography filter in my holiday catalog and asked Santa for one. He (she) delivered on Christmas morning. My first moonless, clear night was last week. The results are SPECTACULAR. Skyglow is gone. I mean really GONE. I took comparative pictures of the same objects and it's yet another Orion Miracle Filter. Colors are bright and M42, as an example, looks like a huge multi-colored image-filling bat. Even the Trapezium which is always lost in long exposures, was distinct. Best part is the jet-black sky. As soon as I can resolve some polar alignment issues in my backyard observatory that I never noticed with shorter exposures, I will send you comparative shots. It's just amazing. You guys are the best. Thanks to you, my love of the sky keeps growing despite our nemisis, light pollution. Thanks, again, for giving me back the night sky.
