Plossl telescope eyepieces such as Orion's Sirius Plossl eyepieces have become the workhorse oculars of choice for thousands of amateur astronomers because of their excellent image quality, good eye relief, wide fields of view, and affordability. Not to take anything away from your basic Plossl telescope eyepieces — they're terrific — but we wanted a line of Plossls that offers even better value, performance and some upgraded features. Plossls that would appeal not only to the dedicated beginning observer but also to more advanced skywatchers who value exceptional quality.

That's why we introduced Orion HighLight Plossls, an exclusive, premium line of 1.25" Plossl with some noteworthy enhancements.

Like the Sirius Plossl line, this Orion HighLight eyepiece offers a generous 52° field of view and crisp, sharp images. But this HighLights eyepiece's 4-element optics are not just fully coated or multi-coated, but fully multi-coated. That means that every air-to-glass lens surface is multi-layer coated for the highest possible light transmission and better contrast. You'll see more of those pinpoint star images and more faint detail in deep-sky objects. In addition, the lens edges are blackened for additional contrast enhancement.

The machined aluminum housings of this eyepiece sport a distinctive anodized finish, with grip traction knurled right into the metal. You won't find this fine touch on any other Plossls on the market. The supple rubber eyeguard shields out extraneous light and folds down for eyeglass wearers.

Like all Orion eyepieces, the barrel of this HighLight Plossl is precision-machined to a tolerance of +/- 0.05mm from the nominal specification, so you can be sure of a great fit in your diagonal or focuser. This Orion HighLight Plossl eyepiece's barrel has a setscrew safety recess to reduce the risk of the eyepiece falling out should the locking setscrew become loose. And of course it is internally threaded to accept filters.

This eyepiece comes with top and bottom end caps for protection against dirt and stray fingertips!

If you have never used Plossl telescope eyepieces before, or you're using standard Plossls, consider upgrading to this premium Orion HighLight Plossl. You won't find a higher-caliber eyepiece for the money than a HighLight!

I absolutely love this eyepiece. It really is a great value. Images are crystal clear and as sharp as I've seen through an eyepiece. Spend a little more and go with these highlight eyepices over the standard ones, The years of amazing views will be worth the extra couple bucks.

On a whim, I purchased the 25mm Highlight Plossl, and I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality, and the views it provided. Like most amateur astronomers, I certainly have my share of EP's, but, after trying the 25mm on my Celestron Nexstar 6SE SCT, and my Meade LX90 8" SCT, I certainly thought these were good enough to own. I liked it so much that after a couple weeks of testing the 25mm, I purchased the 32mm, and the 17mm to ad to my EP kit. OK, they might not have the quality of a TeleVue, but, then again, they're not $400 either!
Having said that, they "are" in fact, pretty darn good EP's, especially for the money. And let's face it, in this economy, it's hard to shell out a ton of cash for just one EP!!!
Overall, the HighLight Plossl series offers nice, clear & crisp views, and a very good value!
Bottom line: If you're looking for a noticeable upgrade from your standard telescope EP's, take a look at these. They're certainly worth trying out.

Excellent sharpness and contrast. Good edge performance and a flat field. I (use a) binoview through a 120mm acromat refractor and these give great low power views.
