This, in my opinion, is the best star chart money can by. The book is by far excellent quality, and the printing is sharp and clear. Plus, the included clear overly has angle graphs, and even has the Telrad's finder ring overlay, which is awesome!

Because of it's huge pages, I find the Sky Atlas 2000 easier to use than the chart books which may go deeper, including dimmer stars, but cover smaller sections of sky on one page. While these charts are essential to the professional astronomer, I feel that all but the most dedicated amateur astronomers may prefer using the Sky Atlas 2000. The atlas covers the entire sky, contains over 81,000 stars down to magnitude magnitude 8.5. About 2700 deep sky objects are plotted - enough to keep you busy for a lifetime. The charts are printed in four colors, with stars appearing black in 18 sizes according to their limiting magnitude. Double stars and variable stars are indicated. Star clusters appear yellow, and globular clusters are indicated with cross hairs. Bright nebulae are shown in green, and dark nebula in white, with an outline. Galaxies are shown in red. There are two enlarged charts to help you navigate the central part of Orion, and the Virgo Galaxy Cluster, which is so peppered with galaxies that it can be difficult to identify them. The overlay is great for finding the precise coordinates for objects, making it extra helpful for astronomers with equatorial or GoTo mounts. It even has a Telrad on the overlay, which is very helpful for star hoppers. The Sky Atlas 2000.0 is so beautifully plotted you may find yourself browsing through it on cloudy nights, drawing up observing lists for your next deep sky excursion. In the field it's detail can help you identify star fields so you may more easily find even dim, challenging celestial objects. Just add a dim, red flashlight to preserve the dark adaptation of your eyes and you're good to go.
