I had a chance to use this book on a dark-sky night in the mountains with binocs recently (I live in Denver....ugh). The maps make it easy to find objects to view and I really like the descriptions of space objects as they tend to make the viewing that much more interesting. "Hunting" for clusters and double starts turned into a very fun treasure hunt. If you are a beginner living in a dark-sky area, you will likely find your skills with identifying and searching the night sky greatly improved, quickly, with this book.
Favorite viewing location:??Rocky Mountain dark sites.
Favorite object to observe:??Star and globular clusters, M42.
Pros: great object descriptions., map sections make finding objects easy.
Cons: learning curve to orient from one map to another.
Yes, I recommend this product!

Although not as detailed as some high dollar maps, this sky atlas is a great little map for quick reference. It contains good information for quickly determining what can be seen when you're looking up. It gives short descriptions of visible items as well. My only suggestion would be to have a little heavier duty, plastic coated pages to make it more robust.
Pros: perfect detail for quick star gazing., light and compact

My beginning astronomy buddies have all received this from me, and I keep several on hand to give out whenever the opportunity unexpectedly arises--which it does frequently. This is because the starmaps and object descriptions are so accessible to beginners, as well as being reminders to more advanced observers of the highlights one could visit just for fun. This is easily the best starter atlas I have ever encountered, and I'll continue pouring money into the product for as long as I do astronomy outreach.
Favorite viewing location:??Backyard or driveway of home
Favorite object to observe:??Open Star Clusters
