Focusing a telescope by hand can cause the image to shake or even move completely out of the field of view, especially at high magnifications. But with the AccuFocus electronic focuser, those annoyances are a thing of the past. Using the pushbutton hand controller you get smooth, precise focusing, without vibration. Choose any speed from coarse to very fine. The DC motor installs easily and works with many Orion telescopes. It's powered by one 9-volt battery (included) in the hand controller. Bracket, hardware, and coil cable are also included. This model includes bracket which provides compatibility with the #8881 2" Low-Profile Dual Speed Crayford Focuser (not the #13030 focuser) and 6" Newtonian Imaging OTA.

6 The Orion AccuFocus for Dual-Speed Crayford Focusers is a great way to focus your telescope. Instead of focusing by hand, which can cause vibration, you use the pushbutton hand controller for smooth, precise focusing without vibration.

I have a 120ED with great optics, and I'm often using it for quick planetary looks. However, I had some difficulty achieving fine focus between my clumsy fingers and the inherent instability of my Alt-Az mount. I was considering high-end two speed focusers. While they are modern day telescope bling, I decided they were not going to solve the problem without motorization, and by the time I paid for all that the price was looking really steep. I began to develop a theory that maybe the Crayford that came with the scope was quite smooth enough, and I just needed more precision. Enter the Orion AccuFocus. This little guy bolted right on to my 120ED without an issue. The unit has knob that controls the speed of the buttons. The real test of course is high power focusing. When the speed is set low I have plenty of room to find the best focus possible. Now I'm able to spend my quick planetary viewing sessions actually viewing the planets rather than messing with the focus. An easy 5-stars to the AccuFocus for saving my hundreds on a bling focuser!

I just installed this last night on my new astrograph and it works perfectly. The speed control is a very nice feature that lets you get a very tight focus. I can't wait until a clear no moon sky.
Yes, I recommend this product!

I bought this for my Orion 190mm mak-newt, which came with the dual focuser. When I set the tension on the focuser high enough to support my camera (a little over two pounds) the motor has insufficient torque to turn the focuser. This could be a problem with the dual speed crayford focuser or the motor, but either way, I cannot really use this, so I'm returning it.
Also note - yes I'm using the tension screw, not the locking thumbscrew, to set tension as per installation directions and telescope directions.
I'm giving it two stars, because it seemed like it would work until I actually attached the camera, tightened the tension enough to keep it from moving the drawtube with its weight and then tried to operate the focuser.
Other notes - the attachment screws seemed awfully short as another reviewer noted. Also the motor would have extended beyond the front of the telescope, which would have made me a little nervous when moving it around, but that is more of a whole solution problem than a motor problem.
Cons: doesn't work with heavier camera.
No, I do not recommend this product.

I have a SkyView Pro 8 with GoTo mount. I hated the rack and pinion focuer so I upgraded to the Orion Low Profile Dual Speed Crayford focuser when it was released in August 2010. I decided to go for broke and get the motor attachment as well. The motor works like expected after I did some modifications. First, the screws to attach the bracket to the focuser itself were too short to reach the threads in the bottom plate of the focuser. I had to go to Ace Hardware for some longer screws. Second, the coupling that attaches the motor to the focuser shaft relied solely on a friction fit. I feared this would slip with my camera during focusing. I decided to take advantage of the flat side of the focuser shaft and use a set screw to attach the coupler for a precision fit. On my same trip to Ace I found the set screw and longer screws for the bracket at a grand cost of .47 and the 2 minute car ride. Once home drilled a small hole into the coupling and tapped it for the set screw and assembled the whole unit. A few nights later when it was clear I tried my quick fix and everything worked perfectly. With a quick (5 minute) modification this accessory works like a charm.
