You'll never be left in the dark with the Orion 20mm Illuminated Centering Telescope Eyepiece. Whether you're acquiring and centering stars for GoTo system alignment, lining up guide stars and/or target objects for astrophotography, or just testing the accuracy of your tracking system, the 20mm Illuminated Centering Telescope Eyepiece will quickly become one of your most trusted and useful imaging tools.

In comparison to most standard low-focal length illuminated reticle telescope eyepieces, the 20mm Illuminated Centering Telescope Eyepiece offers a relatively long 20mm focal length and a wide 70-degree apparent field-of-view, making it easier to locate desirable targets for alignment or guiding. This virtually eliminates the need for swapping out high-power illuminated reticles with lower power eyepieces in order to center objects.

These Illuminated Centering Eyepiece is fully multi-coated (all air-to-glass surfaces) with anti-reflection coatings for bright, crisp views. It features a great 16mm eye relief and the barrel is threaded for Orion 1.25" filters. The illuminator switch doubles as a "dimmer" allowing you to adjust cross-hair brightness to the desired level.

The illuminator is powered by two LR-44 batteries (included) and weighs in at 8 oz.

Since the purchase of my Orion 20mm illuminated centering eyepiece my alignments on my C11 CGEM have been very accurate. Alignments were decent before but now they are spot on everytime. No more guessing where the center is. This eyepiece makes it a breeze to center alignment stars perfectly and get you off and running. Its generous 70 degree FOV grabs a lot of sky making it simple to get your bearings. I've been waiting a while for an illuminated eyepiece such as this. Thank you Orion!

This is the 2nd of these I've had. The biggest improvement is that someone evidentally paid attention to the universal complaint in the reviews about the inability to effectively dim the light source. That now works like a charm. In the first one I had the piece of glass with the etched crosshairs came loose and I was never able to get it back right. This one is fine so far and if it comes loose I'm sending it back whether it's still in warranty or not.
Favorite viewing location:??On my patio in Los Alamos, NM, it could be darker, but it's close.
Favorite object to observe:??Saturn, Jupiter and the galaxies.
Yes, I recommend this product!

I just noticed that the price went down 15% after I bought it so it is even a better deal than before.
Very high quality. I don't know if I got one with the "fixed" illumination control or not. I only used it in my driveway with the street lights in my face and the illumination of the crosshairs was not too bright. The adjustment between dimmest and brightest was not very noticeable and you can't make it go completely dim before it shuts off. This means that I did not get a "fixed" one or it means that they did not fix it very well. For what I use it for I don't really care. I use it for aligning my goto telescope and I used it to track a bright star for my PEC. I will get an autoguider before I spend a lot of time doing manual guiding.
Someone complained that the stars were distorted near the edge of the field of view. I didn't notice because I was always looking at the center. I would not want to pay double to have the edge be perfect - that is not what this eyepiece is used for. The idea is to be able to detect stars way off center so you can put them into the center. If you can't see them at all then you can't put them into the center.
My biggest gripe is that there appears to be no way to focus the crosshairs. I am slightly nearsighted (-1 Diopter) so the crosshairs are a little out of focus. If you're more nearsighted (like -4 Diopters) then you will have to wear your glasses.
Pros: wide field of view, illuminated, affordable, excellent quality
Cons: cannot focus crosshairs
Yes, I recommend this product!

I purchased this on-line from a UK dealer and it arrived in the post today. In transit the lower section grub screw had worked lose and the lower half of the EP was lose and the glass cross hair lens was rattling about inside. I couldn't believe that the entire lower section was held together by one tiny grub screw! I put it back together and put a dab of Loctite on the grub screw and it seems fine, but its clearly a bad design. What is wrong with using a screw thread or at least a second grub screw on the opposite side? The illuminator also didn't work, I opened up the switch to find a wire not soldered to the base, also this thread comes lose as you turn the illuminator off and on. A dab of solder and another dab of Loctite seems to have done the trick. I agree with previous comments that the LED seems too bright and QA seems very poor. It wasn't a cheap EP by any means and as I purchased it from a UK dealership I wonder where I stand on getting a replacement Illuminator. On the upside this was exactly the type of product I was looking for, the optics look reasonable but only time will tell if its up to the job once it gets first light. My impression based on word of mouth was that Orion makes good quality kit, the design flaws and apparent lack of QA has kind of put me off a little, in so much as I would get 'hands on' next time before I buy blind.
