To get the best images from your telescope, its optics must be in precise alignment. This economical tool will ensure that they are.

The Orion Collimating Eyepiece is a combination sight tube and Cheshire eyepiece, consisting of a 5"-long tube made of black-anodized aluminum. It fits in a 1.25" eyepiece holder. A peephole in the top and wire crosshairs at the bottom enable precise centering of Newtonian optical components. The polished 45-degree internal surface projects an annulus of light into the optical path to facilitate primary mirror alignment. Simply insert the Orion Collimating Eyepiece in the focuser drawtube and follow normal collimation steps.

Your Newtonian telescope will always be in excellent optical alignment! Instructions included.

After dealing with the frustrations of using a cheap laser collimator on my 12" Dob, I decided to explore a different method and thus bought this combo collimator. Once I learned how it worked it is very easy to use and is versatile in that with a small LED flashlight, it can be used in total darkness. Extremely accurate I highly recommend it

This Collimator is a good buy. ITs accurate and Very Easy to use (After you get used to it). Starting out it is kinda tricky to understand what your doing at least for me i;m a novice. I had to use the Collimator that came with the scope to see what i was doing first since then i have used this one. I would recommend this to anyone. I am prob going to get a Laser collimator just because my scope is so big i dont want to walk from tthe back to the front of hte scope cause i'm lazy. This product does work well though again it may take a short time to get down what your doing. I almost sent it back till i finally got what i was doing wrong
Pros: cheap high accuacy
Cons: alittle learning curve to get what your doing.
Yes, I recommend this product!

This is so much better than the laser collimator that came with my scope. This makes sure I get a precise collimation and its fairly easy to use. A quality product.

I purchased this after realizing that with the collimation cap that came with my xt8, I could move the secondary mirror a considerable amount without really being able to tell which position it should be in. Once I placed the new collimation piece in, I knew exactly where the secondary should be.
The cross struts in the eyepiece can be overlaid on top of the spider cross struts to better see where the center is. The only thing is, your eyes can't focus on both at the same time, so one has to be blurry while the other clear. Because of this, you also still need the small collimation cap for the primary mirror.
I would really recommend buying the precision centering adapter, as the eyepiece is a bit small in the focuser tube, and with jiggle noticeably with the set screw. Otherwise, this is a great tool for your telescope.
