If you'd like a collimator that stands up to the rigors of real-life field astronomy, our new LaserMate Pro Heavy Duty collimation kit is for you. Even if you dropped it into your bag, don't worry. Did you accidentally bang it? No problem. This "hardened" design will guarantee the alignment of the collimating laser for a lifetime.

Collimation is the process of the mechanical centering of your optics to give your telescope the best possible optical performance. If you own a Newtonian reflector (especially an assemble-on-site telescope) it needs to be checked every time you reassemble it. For tack-sharp images through some telescopes, you may even need to check alignment during your nighttime viewing session as well.

With the LaserMate Pro, you'll get a lifetime of precise collimation so you'll enjoy the best possible visual and imaging experience to get the most out of your telescope.

Achieve quick collimation with laser precision in a simple two-step process. First, insert the LaserMate Pro into a standard 1.25" eyepiece holder and adjust the secondary to center the red laser dot on the primary mirror. For 2" eyepiece holders, use a 1.25" to 2" expansion adaptor or Orion's Precision Centering Adaptor for greatest accuracy. Then, use the included Cheshire eyepiece for final collimation by tilting the reflector's primary mirror. Illustrated instructions and centering dots are included.

The LaserMate Pro is built of durable metal in gunmetal grey and has a lifetime alignment guarantee!

I purchased this collimator just a few weeks ago. What I noticed immediately was the weight of the collimator, which is about 11oz and it's built like a tank - very high quality metal construction. I do not worry about dropping it and damaging it. The collimator laser is factory aligned and the instructions say you should not attempt to align it yourself - but it does have alignment set-screws should you need them. This collimator comes with primary mirror center stickers (should you need them) and is relatively simple to use. I collimated my Starblast 4.5" scope with this in about 10 minutes. The LaserMate Pro does not have a primary mirror centering target grid/bullseye and instead you use the included collimation sight tube to finalize the job of collimation with the primary mirror instead of using a laser and bullseye target - which is not a problem. The switch to turn on the laser is somewhat recessed and is a a high pressure switch, much nicer than the battery screw cap that others use on their collimation products. The only reason the Lasermate Pro is not getting 5 stars from me is that Orion does not include a case for the collimator/sight tube, so you may want to get a small storage case to keep them together.
