Stars, Planets and Galaxies
Stars, Planets and Galaxies

Since childhood, I’ve always been, simply put, awestruck by the night sky. When I was around 11 years old, I remember realizing for the first time how vast and numerous the stars were. I loved looking into the night sky. Looking into the dark night’s sky, took me to far away galaxies, strange planets and distant stars. My imagination was endless, as were the stars!

I hadn’t owned a telescope until recent years. About 10 years ago, my husband surprised me with a basic telescope for my birthday! This was one of the best gifts he ever gave me—and totally unexpected because he always had difficulty finding just the ‘right’ gift for me. It was a great gift and I was so excited!

Unfortunately, the telescope had some minor problems. The apparatus that holds the eyepiece in place would always fall off. Taping it down made it difficult to view the sky easily. Couple that with the fact that we didn’t have the resources to continue fostering and furthering this hobby. However, I still loved looking at the night sky. I have viewed stars, planets and the moon—even during an eclipse!

I don’t have pictures or videos to share, but I have a dream and desire to view the night sky wonders, sunspots or even a few more eclipses—with much enthusiasm. This is an awesome hobby. I hope to pass this to my children who show some of the same curiosities that I have about space, stars, planets, galaxies etc. In the end, we all really enjoy the wonders of the infinite night sky!

For our 25th wedding anniversary, my husband and I were going to have a getaway weekend. Instead we decided to go for a new telescope and a few accessories. I am so excited for the infinite viewing possibilities! I can’t wait to bring it to the cabin and view the stars without the light pollution.

Celebrating the sky is easy. The night sky is beautiful, dare I say—gorgeous, wondrous and full of possibilities! When I look into the sky, I see my maker, the vastness of life, the magnificence and depth of space, the imaginative possibilities, and I grasp a sense of peace! When I look at the stars (with or without a telescope), I see God, I feel peace and I enjoy one of the greatest simple pleasures of life!
