As easy as flipping a switch, the Imaging Flip Mirror enables the astrophotographer to find, center, and focus a target object visually with a 1.25" telescope eyepiece, then photograph it with a Charged Coupled Device (CCD) camera. All without swapping out any equipment. It's a real time saver, making the normally tedious task of focusing with the CCD camera alone quicker and easier.

Rather than having to take numerous astrophotos to locate and focus your target, the 1.25" Orion Astrophotography Flip Mirror lets you do those things visually with a telescope eyepiece. An internal mirror deflects the incoming light 90 degrees up into the eyepiece. A helical fine focus mechanism on the telescope eyepiece holder lets you set the eyepiece focus to be parfocal with the camera. Then, once you've focused the celestial object in the eyepiece, a flip of the side lever drops the mirror to allow the light to enter the camera, rendering a sharp, focused CCD image.

The Astro-imaging Flip Mirror was designed specifically for use with StarShoot Deep Space imagers and similarly sized CCD cameras, for which it provides full sensor illumination. Male T-threads on the unit's metal housing allow direct attachment of the CCD camera body. The housing itself connects to a telescope's 1.25" focuser or adapter via the nosepiece, which alternatively can be removed to expose T-threads for direct coupling. The nosepiece is threaded for 1.25" filters.

As convenient as it is for CCD imaging, the Orion Astrophotography Flip Mirror also lets you enjoy visual observation when you want to take a brief break from shooting pictures. Maybe you want to catch an eyeful of that bright planet before it sets. You can do so without having to dismantle your camera setup!

Why not streamline your astrophotography routine and take an occasional break to enjoy the views while you're at it? Get the 1.25" Orion Astrophotography Flip Mirror today!

Accepts 1.25" telescope eyepieces, not included. Housing dimensions, excluding nosepiece and eyepiece adapter: 3.3"L x 2.2"W x 2.3"H. Requires 80mm of additional inward focus travel. Weighs 9.4 oz.

Review of flip mirror

I bought the Star Shoot Solar System Imager IV camera. When I saw the flip imager I thought it was a great idea, which it is. Unfortunately, I did not notice that the flip imager was for the Orion Deep Space Star Shoot systems. The IV does not attach tothe back of the imager. I did use Velcro to make a fit to the flip imager with very little trouble and it works well. I just jumped a little ahead of the equipment I had on hand. A good design for a good use. Brian M.

I have two Orion Flip Mirrors that are used on a 8" SCT and a 10" SCT. Image loss, very little to none. Perfect fit, and great for all different types and models besides just Orion. I have never had any problems using these Flip Mirrors. My opinion is you can't go wrong with the Orion Flip Mirror. Keep up the great quality equipment. Thanks Again.

The Orion Astrophotography Flip Mirror works as advertised. I bought this to put between my 80mm Short Tube 80 and the Starshoot Autoguider. Unscrew the nosepiece from the SSAG and attach it directly to the back of the Flip Mirror for a more secure connection. There is a lock ring back there so you can orient the camera to whatever position you want. On a down note the front nosepiece is too slick and I noticed the Flip Mirror sliding out of the back of the Short Tube 80 during astroimaging when the scope was pointed near the meridian. The solution for this is to remove the nosepiece from the front of the Flip Mirror as well. I did not realize it immediately but the back of the Short Tube 80 has threads and a locking ring there as well. Now it is a very solid connection and no more slipping out of focus on my guide stars. the parfocal ring on the top works well and using a 25mm Orion Plossl and focusing through that puts me very close to perfect focus for the guide stars after I flip the mirror out of the way. This has saved me time and I really like this product.

When doing astrophotography, being able switch between an eyepiece and a camera is very helpful. The Orion flip-mirror facilitates this and is a worthwhile addition to the astrophotographer's toolkit.
This flip-mirror is well made. It includes a spiral focuser that allows you to get both the camera and your eyepiece properly focused.
This is a reasonably priced and important accessory for astrophotography which I highly recommend.
