The Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector Mark III (MPCC MkIII) from Baader Planetarium virtually eliminates the effects of coma in fast Newtonian reflector telescopes. This astrophotography accessory is a must-have if you capture images with a fast Newtonian Astrograph and a DSLR or CCD camera.

The Baader MPCC Mark III Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector has been designed for astrophotographic use with fast reflector telescopes featuring focal ratios from f/3.5 to f/6. Reflectors with such a fast focal ratio inherently exhibit coma, especially around the edges of the telescope's field of view. This coma can wreak havoc on astrophoto quality as it gives stars a bloated, fuzzy appearance. Nobody wants fuzzy stars in their astrophotos! By attaching the Baader MPCC Mk III to your fast astrograph reflector, you'll eliminate pesky coma and be able to capture gorgeous images with tack-sharp, 12-micron stars across the full width of a 35mm or smaller size imaging sensor. Using the MPCC MkIII does not cause vignetting, and will not extend the focal length of a telescope's optical system as some other coma correctors do, so it won't slow the "speed" of the optics or narrow the field of view.

To get the best astrophotos with a DSLR camera, the Baader MPCC Mark III Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector is ideal. For imaging with digital SLR cameras, only the MPCC MkIII is needed - additional spacer rings are not required. (You WILL need a T-ring for your particular camera model, of course). The MPCC MkIII is designed for a nominal 55mm distance from the mounting flange to the camera sensor (55mm is the standard flange-to-sensor distance for most DSLR cameras, measured from the front of the T-ring to the image plane). For use with CCD cameras, you may need one or more T-thread extension or "spacer" rings to achieve the correct distance between the MPCC MkIII and the camera's imaging sensor. (Orion carries a T-thread Spacer Ring Kit, sold separately).

The MPCC MkIII inserts into 2" reflector telescope focusers and accepts T-2 (M42x0.75) and/or 2" (M48.0x0.75) threaded astrophotographic adapters. Its barrel is also threaded to accept standard 2" (48mm) astrophotography filters. When attached to the imaging telescope using 2" threads, it provides a huge 44mm clear aperture.

The optical elements of the Baader MPCC Mark III Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector are multi-coated on all air-to-glass surfaces with special "Phantom Group" wide-band multi-coatings for maximum light throughput and freedom from reflections.

Combine a fast f/3.5-f/6 Newtonian reflector telescope with the affordable MPCC MkIII and your favorite imaging camera to capture amazing flat-field images of deep-sky treasures. It really works!
