The popularity of Celestron's NexStar 114 models inspired them to go bigger! Celestron is proud to introduce the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Computerized Telescope. The NexStar 130 SLT has 30% more light-gathering power than Celestron's 114mm telescope.

And the 130 SLT Computerized Telescope, like the other models in the SLT Series, comes with a fully computerized hand control. The computerized hand control gives you the ability to automatically slew to any of its 4,000+ celestial objects, including over 600 galaxies, 300 clusters and dozens of beautiful binary stars. With its pre-assembled, adjustable steel tripod, the NexStar 114 SLT can be up and ready to use in a matter of minutes. Celestron's new SkyAlign alignment technology and the included StarPointer Finderscope with a red LED makes aligning a breeze.

View the details of the lunar surface, the rings of Saturn, the polar ice caps on Mars, the cloud belts on Jupiter or a number of the Messier objects such as the globular cluster in Hercules (M13), or the Great Nebula in Orion (M42). Begin to explore some of the fainter Messier objects using the additional light-gathering capabilities of the 130 SLT's 5" primary mirror.

Because of the Newtonian design, the mirror gives fully color-corrected views that are best suited for astronomical use.

Can I use an erecting eye piece on this to make the image upright?
Yes, as long as it is the erecting eyepiece it will work to correct the image in any reflector.

Can this telescope see planets, nebula?s, galaxies and other deep space objects?
Yes, Celestron?s NexStar 130 SLT will let you see deep-space objects. Every telescope has limitations, however, and the NexStar 130 is no exception. Its 5.12-inch optics will allow it to see out to Magnitude 13+. That?s enough to bring in light from about 15 million stars, but a telescope with larger optics will bring in more.

Can you take pictures with this telescope?
Although this scope cannot take pictures out of the box, you can take pictures with the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT provided you have the necessary accessories such as a CCD imager or camera adapters.

How easy is it to learn to use the star align?
The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope is easy for a novice to use. You?ll have it up and running within a half hour. You?ll need a good set of eyepieces and filters to get the most from your scope.

I am thinking about getting the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT. Is it capable of doing more stuff then the NexSar 60, 80, 102, and 114 SLT and in what ways? Also, if I get the Nexstar 130 SLT, I was going to get the Celestron Eyepiece and Filter Kit - 1.25 Inch Format. Will the kit match up with the telescope and is it duplicating what I would be getting with the telescope? The telescope's user level is listed as intermediate, but I would say that I am at a beginner level, would that be an impediment for me in operating the telescope?
A telescope with a 130mm aperture, such as the NexStar 130SLT has, is capable of gathering more light than one with a smaller primary mirror. Hence, you'll be able to see more distant objects, and your views of closer objects will be brighter under high magnification. The 130 SLT is intermediate in capability, but that doesn't mean a beginner can't operate it. The GoTo feature should simplify finding celestial objects for you. The eyepiece & filter kit will work nicely with the 130SLT. You will be duplicating the 9mm eyepiece, but since that's one you'll be using often, it might be a good idea to have a spare.

I have the NexStar 80SLT. Will it be possible to buy just the tube and use it with the mount that came with my 80 SLT?
Unfortunately, the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT optical tube is not available by itself.

I live in an area with several companies with lights. I also have several street lights near my house. I can see a few stars by eye. Will I still be able to see enough to make buying this telescope worthwhile? Will a bigger telescope better overcome the background light problem?
?Worthwhile? is a relativistic term. What I will tell you is that we have customers who use their 14 inch scopes off of balconies on Manhattan Island (light and pollution everywhere) and they love their telescopes. They still hate light pollution, but they love and use the scopes.

If I take the telescope in and out of my house, then do I need do the star align each time?
The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope will save the coordinates originally entered but you will still need to three star align every time the unit is powered up.

Is this telescope of such size and weight the it would be considered to be a ?grab and go??
The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope weighs 34lbs total and is considered to be a very portable telescope.

What is the maximum payload capacity of this mount?
The mount on the Nexstar 130 is not recommended to hold any other telescope. The mount is designed only for the 130mm barrel. The mount is strong enough to hold a camera adapter and a camera for astrophotography but additional weight is not suggested with this mount design.

What is the size of the complete set i.e. tube and the tripod?
The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope?s shipping size is 40 x 20 x 11 inches. Shipping weight is 35 pounds.

What length is the telescope tube on the Nexstar 130 SLT?
The length of the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT telescope?s optical tube is about 26 inches.
