The Shorttube 80 is one of my favorite scopes. I purchased this telescope to be used as a guide scope but discovered that its optics work very well for deep sky astrophotography. Here is a recent image taken of the Great Spiral Nebula in Andromeda.

Orion ShortTube 80-A Refractor Telescope
Canon XS DSLR Processing: Images Plus and Photoshop CS5 Exposure: 38 x 30 sec Notes: I have had a passion for astronomy since my early years in elementary school during the 70's. The North Museum planetarium in Lancaster, PA near my home and Star Trek fueled this interest. I am now working part time in this same planetarium 35 years later sharing many of the photographs with the public.
An upgraded version of the ShortTube 80, the 80-A is very portable and is perfect for the beginning astronomer. Wide field of view makes it ideal for deep sky viewing. The refractor optical tube attaches easily to any Orion telescope mount.
