The stalwart Orion Atlas EQ-G Computerized GoTo Telescope Mount can handle up to 40 lbs. of astronomy equipment easily. Its computerized GoTo database of over 42,000 celestial objects can lead you and your family to spectacular celestial sights night after night. Whether you’re looking for a rock-solid GoTo mount for visual use of a telescope, or gearing up for a rewarding astrophotography hobby, the Orion Atlas EQ-G GoTo Mount fits the bill with rugged elegance.

The Atlas EQ-G has become a favorite of amateur astronomers all over the globe thanks to its consistent performance, low price, and accurate GoTo functionality. The Orion Atlas EQ-G Mount can lead you and your telescope to a variety of celestial wonders on any clear night with its sophisticated GoTo system database of well over 42,000 objects. Once a simple alignment procedure is completed, the Atlas EQ-G’s included hand controller lets you select an object from intuitive menus, and then command the mount to automatically pinpoint them in the attached telescope. If you’re not sure what to look for in the vast starry skies, the Atlas does! You can choose the tour function to have the Atlas EQ-G lead you on an astronomical sightseeing adventure. Once an object is centered, The Atlas EQ-G Mount’s robust internal DC stepper motors track the object for comfortable extended views. The internal motors offer nine slew rates ranging from 2x to 800x sidereal and three tracking rates: sidereal, lunar, and solar.

Astrophotographers love the Orion Atlas EQ-G Computerized GoTo Telescope Mount due to its precise tracking performance, affordable price, and robust load capacity. Since most astrophotography setups consist of multiple heavy pieces of equipment, an astrophotography mount must be capable of supporting hefty loads while also providing smooth, accurate tracking. Backlash compensation and programmable PEC provide the responsiveness for guiding and the tracking accuracy needed for astrophotography. There’s also a jack for a CCD autoguider built right into the Atlas EQ-G Mount, so it’s easy to add guided accuracy to all of your astrophotos.

Strong and solid, the Atlas EQ-G Computerized GoTo Telescope Mount weighs in at 54 lbs. and includes two 11 lb. counterweights for a total assembled weight of 76 lbs. The included tripod boasts big, 2” diameter steel legs for enhanced stability. Thanks to its rock-solid construction, the Atlas EQ-G equatorial mount can support telescope tube assemblies or equipment combinations of up to 40 lbs. An included RS-232 interface cable, illuminated polar-axis scope, and 13" dovetail mounting bar round out the features of this impressive GoTo equatorial mount.

The Atlas EQ-G requires an external 12-volt DC power source, such as an Orion Dynamo Pro (sold separately) or AC-to-DC wall adapter (sold separately) for motorized operation.

So far this is the Best mount I ever owned! Tracks nicely, its solid, looks attractive. Especially when i polar align this beast. Holds my 22lb. 200mm Mak- cassegrain in place with ease. I'm also planning to image with my 80mm Apo Refractor! Thank You Orion!

I have had an Atlas EQ for several years and missed my opportunity to purchase the GOTO kit as an upgrade. I finally bit the bullet and purchased the whole EQ-G. I initially set up with a 6" Newtonian. I was able to connect my laptop through Starry Night Pro and the GOTO computer handset. (I wish that Orion sold the direct connect... seems a little redundant.) After a 3-star alignment, the GOTO nailed several faint-fuzzies... on the money. I wish I'd done this earlier! (Benefit of the handheld computer is that I don't HAVE to haul the laptop.)
Favorite viewing location:??My backyard
Favorite object to observe:??Nebulae and Golbular clusters
Pros: just plain solid
Cons: orion should sell a direct laptop-mount cable
Yes, I recommend this product!

This is an excellent, sturdy mount with intuitive controls. It was very easy to set up and use out of the box. In the past, I have resisted the "Go To" movement in favor of star charts and knowledge of the sky, however I have to admit the ease of use and smooth tracking at high magnifications makes this a long awaited addition my equipment.
Favorite viewing location:??Remote locations in Nevada
Favorite object to observe:??NGC 6207
Pros: quality of design, easy smooth operation
Cons: does not support tracking on the sun
Yes, I recommend this product!

I have had the Atlas EQ-G mount a little over a month now and I am just now getting the stars to show in a wide field eye piece. Most of the problem was in the polar alignment scope which I had to fine tune. The manual tells one how to do this but I wanted to exhaust all other possabilites that I was not doing something wrong before I started making adjustments. Another small problem was that the RA lock would not hold which made tracking almost impossible. That was a easy fix by moving the lock lever but it took a while to figure out what was going on. Now the 3 star alignment is dead on and whatever object I select with the Go-To feature is always in the field of view. I tracked M42 for 6 hours and it never left the field of view although at 5 hours a small adjustment was needed. I have not done any fine tuning for tracking as yet. The mount is a good investment for the serious amature and the Go-To feature is great after 20 years of using setting circles, Telrad and finder scope.
Favorite viewing location:??My back yard.
Pros: great tracking
Cons: fine tuning required
Yes, I recommend this product!
