Great Focuser!

This is an awesome focuser. Best I have owned. The dual speed works great, able to tighten it down with a dslr without any image shift. If there is any slop, they send the alan wrench to tighten the resistance screw. No sweat! Its a great deal and some tight manufacturing. Recommend to anyone.

I'll start by writing that I could have bought another focuser from another company for $300.00. The $300.00 focuser is well machined and well made. I had some misgivings about the other reviews on this Orion focuser before my purchase. I have it in my hand now and I can tell you that this is a well built and well made focuser. Why would a business sell junk? This item is everything Orion says it is.
Pros: well made
Cons: none
Yes, I recommend this product!

I have trouble reconciling my experience with this product (and a couple others reviewers) with the other great review comments. Either they were shills or there is considerable variation in quality control at the factory. With a typical eyepiece and two Barlows there was about a 0.5 in droop from center. This is unsatisfactory I fixed this by designing a mechanical bridge which is somewhat awkward, but it provides about 0.125" droop, which is good.
Is the more expensive version better, I won't know. It is impossible to determine any details or specifics from the sales descriptions. They are general terms which could fit either model.
I would appreciate from Orion more detail in their specifications so that a customer could compare and decide if an upgrade is worth the cost. I also wonder if they did not know of this design defect early since the "improved" model came out not long after the original.
Favorite viewing location:??Backyard in Central Texas
Favorite object to observe:??Planets, globulars and nebula
Pros: fine focus does work well
Cons: sags with barlows
No, I do not recommend this product.

This focuser works great on my XT10. It has some slop if I extend the tube to the edge, but beside that it is sturdy enough. I agree with other reviewers that the 1.25in adapter should stick to the focuser, not the eyepiece however.
