Speed up the cooling of your big reflector telescope’s optics to ambient temperature with this small, quiet Orion Cooling Accelerator Fan for Large Reflector Telescopes. Cooling a big reflector’s optics helps to improve the quality of your observations though the telescope. If the air inside the optical tube of your reflector telescope is warmer than the air outside, air currents can cause your views to be unstable and to appear “shaky” as warm and cool air mix.

The Orion Cooling Accelerator Fan for Large Reflector Telescopes attaches to pretapped and threaded holes in the mirror cells of many Orion Dobsonian reflector telescopes, including SkyQuest XT8, XT10, and XT12 Classic Dobsonian telescopes; XT8i, XT10i, and XT12i IntelliScope Dobsonians; XX12i and XX14i Truss Tube IntelliScope Dobsonians; and the XT12g GoTo Truss Tube Dobsonian reflector. It also fits mounted reflectors including the Orion Atlas 8, Atlas 10, and the Orion SkyView Pro 8 Newtonian telescope models. Mounting screws are supplied.

The fan runs on 12 volt DC power supplied by the included battery pack, which uses eight D-cell batteries (not included). Battery life is about 13-14 hours of continuous operation. You can also power the Cooling Accelerator Fan with a portable 12-volt field battery with a DC power cable, such as an Orion Dynamo Pro (sold separately).

You can run the fan prior to observing, and then turn it off, or you can even keep it running while observing; there is no noticeable vibration.

Fits and wooks well to cool off things. I see no difference in the view with it on or off after all has cooled down. (little vibration) I think it helps keep the dew off the mirror also.

It gets cold up here in Central New York in the winter. My XT8 goes from 70F temps to sub 20F and it takes a long time to cool down. The fan draws the cool air up through the tube assembly and cool times have been cut in half. Installation is a breeze. Orion even supplies a screw driver. As others have said, Orion should have the manufacturer install a switch on the battery pack or inline from the battery pack to the fam plug. Other than that it does work as expected.
Favorite viewing location:??Back Deck
Favorite object to observe:??Deep Sky Objects
Pros: coolin time cut in half
Cons: no switch to turn it off. must unplug it.

The fan works fine and is easy to mount. The Battery compartment/holder for the 8 batteries is cheap and not needed. I cut the connector off and added alligator ends so that I could connect to a small 12v portable rechargeable battery pack that sits in the corner of the base of my XT10G dobson. For the XT10G Dobson the fan is not really necessary and I recommend Dobson purchasers waiting until they have used their dobson, under their specific conditions, to determine if this item is necessary.
No, I do not recommend this product.

My fan works fine and was easy to install. But I cut the wire at the battery pack. And done away with the 8D cell battery pack. And now i use a small 12VDC rechargeable battery instead. I also installed inline with the positive wire a small on/off toggle switch that i picked up at the auto parts store. Now all i need is a little metal box to put the battery in. And install my switch in. Then I'll mount it to the side of my XT10i, when I'm done it will look like it came for Orion that way. (A previous review) is right. Orion should have mounted a little on/off switch to their battery pack.
