Can be used on 40 year old mounts

I installed the EQ-2M on a 40 Year old Tasco mount. Some modification was needed. The mounting hole has to be slightly enlarged and the clutch riding screw replaced with a regular machine screw. The EQ-2m has a T Screw to hold the motor in place on the mount stud and a spring that keeps the drive gear meshed with the big mount gear. The spring also permits use of the clutch lever. It does a good job of tracking for my Tasco 4.5 inch reflector . ,We do not offer customer support for custom modifications but we are very happy to hear that this has worked out.

Spring tension gear engagement - Don't force or overtighten and it will work well with a light load. I use it for my DSLR tracking only -- Not for a heavier type telescope mount. If handled gently, it will track well for this type of application.
Favorite viewing location:??Coral Key Village Observatory
Favorite object to observe:??Deep Sky
Pros: tracks well with camera and lens
Cons: light weight construction
Yes, I recommend this product!

I bought the Orion EQ-2M Telescope Drive thinking I???d use it occasionally, such as when showing the moon to friends and family. However, I fell in love with it as soon as I started using it. I now turn on the drive more often than not when I???m observing. The installation on my StarMax 102 telescope was a snap???I had the unit working in about five minutes. Also, the slewing controls are easy to use. One minor improvement might be to combine the battery pack and controls into a single unit (simplifies transport and reduces the number of cables from two to one). Even so, I???m very happy with this telescope drive, and it has significantly improved my telescopic viewing sessions.
Favorite viewing location:??My front yard mostly because it's convenient (and not TOO light polluted).
Favorite object to observe:??can't narrow it down to one or even ten.
Pros: easy to install, easy to use, tracking is good especially with high power
Cons: three parts (not including cables) should be simpl
Yes, I recommend this product!
