Black shrouds are usually so funereal — but not when you're talking truss tube Dobs! For the best performance from any truss Dobsonian, a shroud is a must. This one, custom designed for the SkyQuest XX12, is made of a stretchy nylon blend material that fits like a glove over the truss poles of the XX12, fastening with thick elastic bands on both ends. The water-resistant, opaque black fabric blocks stray light from entering the optical path, thus improving image contrast. It's also breathable, which minimizes unwanted vibration of the scope in breezy conditions. Use of the shroud will lessen the accumulation of dust and dirt on the mirrors during use, and will help prevent dew from forming on them. Made in the U.S.A.

xx12 light shroud

The shroud seems to fit well. It does not seem to sag at all. Dries quickly. all in all it seems to work. time will tell more. Maybe some instuctions on how to put on would be helpfull. I fully assemble the scope without the eyepiece then work it down the scope. If you try to put it on the truss first, it kind of hard and awkward putting the upper assembly on the trusses.

XX12 Shroud

The XX12 stands by itself, but when you live with a street light at the corner of your driveway, the shroud keeps things in perspective. It fits like a glove, is very light weight, and just takes a couple of minutes to install. Any vibration magnification from the winter wind hitting it is negligable. I am pleased with it's performance and feel it's well worth your consideration.
