Mfg Model #  21090

The Omni XLT 120 refractor features the stable platform of the Celestron CG-4 equatorial telescope mount and high quality refracting optics. Using aspheric shaping technology in conjunction with hand-figuring the optics, the Omni XLT 120 presents an image with virtually no spherical aberration. Celestron also added their popular, high-performance StarBright XLT coating system to further enhance light transmission. The 120mm, f/8.3 achromatic refractor is great for viewing brighter deep space objects like nebulas and galaxies. The Moon and planets also shine bright in this capable refractor telescope. Includes 25mm 1.25" eyepiece, 1.25" star diagonal, and "The Sky" Level 1 planetarium software with a 10,000 object database.

Top Quality Sleeper Scope

Here's the scoop. I'm a newbie to astronomy so my review probably won't have much weight. I was given a Celestron C4 as a introductory primer to astronomy. The scope's lens coatings had begun to deteriorate from dew exposure neglect. Even though it still gave outstanding sharp images and contrast, I wanted a perfect scope with no impediments. I Purchased the Omni XLT 120 after selling the C4. The C4 has a long history of quality and outstanding optics. When I unveiled the Omni XLT 120 and compared it to the C4, "WOW" what a hands down difference. The quality and sturdiness, first off is outstanding. The views were sharp and crisp. Jupiter's bands and the great red spot blew me away. I had to add sand to the C4's stand because it was not that stable. The Omni 120's stand is rock solid. I can go on and on, but that's enough from a neophyte. The Cons: The white color two tone blue\white is not that appealing as the C4's black. I can live with that. I know a Orion XT8 Classic dobsonian and the contrast and sharpness of the Omni XTL 120 at this point can't to matched. I need to have stock in Orion to get back all the money I'm spending.

After having tested the Celestron Omni XLT 120 on the Moon, several galaxies, the Orion Nebula, several open clusters, and the Globular cluster M-13 I am very satisfied with the optics. The images are sharp - even at a magnification of 110x on the moon.Certainly the optical value is very high for the cost of this scope and I give the optics 5 stars. If you are a fan of equatorial mounts (which I am not), then the mount is a decent mount. There are some issues with vibrations when the legs are extended but the mount is very solid if the legs are not extended. Unfortunately, if you do not extend the legs you must sit on the ground to view objects near the zenith. The slow motion controls are very smooth. The mount was also very easy to assemble and came with very clear instructions. So overall I give the mount 3 or 4 stars. Overall, a great value on the optical tube assembly and a good value on the mount - but beginners beware - equatorial mounts are not as easy if you prefer star sweeping to letting a computer do the work.
