Orion’s latest venture in astrophotography is your ticket into the rewarding world of video astronomy. Whereas CCD and DSLR astrophotography normally requires many minutes, or even hours, of painstaking data acquisition and processing in order to create an astrophotograph, the Orion StarShoot Deep Space Video Camera lets you view real-time images of deep space objects in all their glory. Views of deep space delicacies can be displayed with any device equipped with RCA composite video inputs, such as a TV or projector.

What’s more, the included Orion Video Capture Device easily attaches to your video camera, camcorder, DVD player, DVR, VCR, or any device equipped with an RCA composite, component, or S-Video output, and makes it possible for you to view, record and capture footage from those devices for viewing on your laptop or PC. This versatile device also features a USB 2.0 interface designed for use with the Orion StarShoot Deep Space Video Camera. Additionally, it can detect meteors, record time lapse movies of the cosmos and allow conversion of video files to MPEG4, AVI, WMA, ASF, and other file formats.

The SSDSVC is built around the sensitive Mintron 72S85HN-EX-R color sensor which is capable of providing pleasing real-time views of the 110 Messier objects, as well as many other bright galaxies, star clusters and nebulas. The astronomical video camera also performs admirably when trained on objects such as the Moon and planets within our solar system. The highly sensitive StarShoot Deep Space Video Camera excels during both daytime and nighttime conditions, so it has a huge potential for use across many applications.

Other than an astronomical telescope, the StarShoot Deep Space Video Camera includes everything you need to view and capture live, real-time images of the night sky. Both a 12V "cigarette-plug" cable and AC adapter cable are included to power to the astronomy video camera, and an included video cable provides output to any device with RCA inputs. A helpful on-screen display menu makes it easy to adjust the astronomy video camera’s settings. The 1.25" nosepiece makes it easy to attach the video camera to any imaging telescope. The StarShoot Deep Space Video Camera nosepiece is threaded for use with Orion filters and focal reducers (sold separately) which can help optimize and enhance video images. The camera weighs 8.7 oz. and measures 2.6" x 1.9" x 2.5" in size.

Explore the growing world of video astronomy the Orion way with the new StarShoot Deep Space Video Camera - your ticket to real-time views of the heavens.

The StarShoot Deep Space Video Camera is compatible with the National Television System Committee (NTSC) standard only, which is used throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South America (excluding Brazil and Argentina), Burma, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Republic of the Philippines, and many Pacific island nations and territories.

After reading and rereading the writeup and specifications along with the photos and videos put up by the Orion Staff, I decided to take a risk on this new type of astro imagining. All I can say is that I am glad that I did! This gives a completely different and better way to share astronomy with fiends, large groups and just to collect videos to share online. Photo stacking software enables some pretty darn good stills to post as well. The astro photographer members in my club were impressed with the capability of this little video camera as well. We spent one night going from one DSO to another just to gauge it's performance and none of us were disappointed. Setup is quick and easy. Learning all the abilities will take a while as this can do just about anything you want it to. Between planets, our moon, galaxies and a large selection of other DSOs, this will keep me busy for some time to come. This will be my go to device for any capturing of celestial bodies I wish to share with others. I am very glad I took the risk and exceptionally happy with this device! Thank You Orion!

The video quality of this jewel is beyond belief. Very easy set-up of operating and capture software. It's on screen display of settings are plain no non-sence and straight forward. Excellent for color or monochrome use. It's built in zoom is something you have to experience to believe. Very little if any re-focus is needed when switching back and forth. Lunar craters and color bands of Jupiter pop right out. Again this is an excellent little camera, and I do mean little and lightweight.
Pros: t to c to cs with no problem

Two dust lanes show in M31. M33 visible even when not in eyepiece. Shows Helix Nebula. M27 and M57 nice. Shows internal structure of the Snowball Nebula with a 2x Barlow. Star clusters nice. Overall I get a better view of DSOs than through my eypiece with a C8 scope.

This was a dud from the start. Hard to work and control. Can't see any real deep sky objects and the ones I can see have no detail. Wish I had not spent the money on one of the other makes out there.
