Orion Dobsonians have always been known for superb optical and mechanical quality, wonderful ease of use, and remarkably affordable prices. One other thing they - and almost all other Dobs on the market - have had in common: you pushed the telescope to your observing target by hand.

GoTo Dob Chart

Until now. Orion is pleased to herald another giant leap in Dobsonian evolution with the introduction of the SkyQuest XTg series of fully motor driven GoTo Dobsonians. Now, pointing a Dob to even the most elusive of NGC curiosities is as easy as pushing a button or two on the XTg Dobsonians’ illuminated hand controller. High-torque servo motors guided by two pairs of high-resolution encoders then slew the telescope right to your object of interest - any of over 42,000 objects in the GoTo controller’s database. No more nudging the telescope tube continuously to keep the object from drifting out of the field of view, either. The XTg automatically tracks the object’s motion, keeping it centered in the eyepiece while you savor the view. What’s more, the closed-loop electronics of the XTg let you move the telescope manually - or endure the accidental bump - without losing orientation for accurate, automated GoTo pointing!

The SkyQuest XT10g combines GoTo pointing convenience with excellent portability and an amazingly affordable price (just compare its price to any other 10" GoTo telescope on the market). It features a 254mm (10") aperture, 1200mm focal-length parabolic mirror (f/4.7) made from low-thermal-expansion optical glass, with enhanced reflectivity (94%) aluminum coatings for high-definition images. The mirror is center marked to make alignment of the optics (collimation) easier and more precise. The optical tube comes equipped with a dual-speed 2" Crayford focuser (with 1.25" adapter). The 11:1 fine focus knob ensures that you’ll quickly find that ultra-sharp focus point that makes your target object pop with dazzling clarity! The telescope’s open mirror cell design facilitates efficient cooling of the mirror to ambient temperature. The cell also has threaded holes for mounting an optional cooling accelerator fan, for even faster equilibration.

The GoTo base comes with all optical encoders, drive motors, and gears pre-installed, making assembly a breeze. The optical tube drops into the base on a dovetail trunnion and locks in place with a single hand knob. A simple two-star alignment is all it takes to orient the scope to the sky for GoTo operation. Then let the fun begin! And when you’re ready to call it a night, just loosen the knob and lift the tube off the base for easy transport or storage. Handles on the base’s front and side panels make it easy to lift and carry.

Standard accessories with the XT10g include an EZ Finder II reflex sight, eyepiece rack with holes for one 2" and three 1.25" eyepieces, hand controller mounting bracket, quick collimation cap, a wide-field 28mm DeepView 2" eyepiece, and a 12.5mm illuminated-crosshair Plossl eyepiece (1.25"), which enables ultra-precise GoTo system alignment. The XT10g Dobsonian requires power from a 12-volt DC field battery or AC adapter, sold separately. A DC cable is included that has a car lighter style plug on one end for connecting to your 12-volt DC power source, and a coaxial plug on the other end that fits the power jack installed on the base.

You’re going to love plying the night skies with the SkyQuest XT10g telescope. The GoTo hand controller’s softly red-illuminated keypad lets you select an object from a variety of intuitive menus, or take a tour of the "best" objects in the sky at any time. The time you’ll save by not having to manually search for your targets will allow you to kick back, relax, and spend more time enjoying the magnificent views through the eyepiece.

If you are an intermediate or avid deep-sky hunter who wants a big-aperture telescope but not the high price tag, a Dobsonian is the way to go. And now, finally, you can have one that offers the convenience of motor driven GoTo pointing — to anything in the heavens you’d like to see! Make your next telescope the Orion SkyQuest XT10g GoTo Dobsonian!

I would consider myself an avid astronomer and currently own a Celestron SLT130. I have recieved my Orion XT10G and am absolutely in love with the quality and attention to detail that Orion has given this scope. I have only had a couple of short hops atnight due to weather but my impressions so far are excellent. the Goto works flawlessly and tracks very well. the views are incredible and sharp. Colimnation was spot on and pin sharp. The customer service from Orion is the best I have ever recieved from any company I have purchased from. I believe that if you are reading this with the intent to purchase I can say you will not be disappointed. Happy Hunting

OK, being a rank newbie to astronomy, l have little to compare it to but the occasional superstore junk scopes that l have bought for presents and the rare celestial event, ( Hale-Bopp comet), that's a mistake l won't make again. The Orion Fun scope is vastly superior, at a better price, but that's another review... l have for the most part only used it in auto tracking mode because, honestly, l was a bit intimidated by the 2 star alignment, not knowing the names of the stars l was unsure l would be able to accomplish this! After installing a planetarium and GPS app, l have found my tablet to be an invaluable aid, a smartphone would work as well or better. After setting up go to mode, it was just plain cool to enter an object and watch the scope automatically slew to the object! I had an issue with the supplied reflex finder scope, but since l planned to upgrade that soon, that was a minor issue that l chose not to addressl used one l had on hand for firearms use, after minor modification of the mount. As l said, being a newbie, this is far from a technical review. I am eagerly looking forward to taking it to the very dark skies of eastern Ky!
Favorite viewing location:??My severely light polluted backyard, taking it to the Appalachians in early April
Favorite object to observe:??Jupiter and moons, Saturn, Titan and Rhea, Orion nebula.
Pros: excellent images even under light pollution, easy to collimate
Cons: very large l knew this just be aware!
Yes, I recommend this product!

I knew this was big, but I didn't realize how big. I've got a 100mm tabletop and this is really bigger! Assembly was simple, I used the laser collimation and it should be standard with this telescope. It's heavy and bulky almost 70 lbs yes you can move it by yourself, but don't do it.
I live in a small town, nosey neighbors had the police to drive by. They thought I had some type of cannon.
My first night out was ok. I really like the 2" eyepieces but It does show some coma near the edge of field, but it is to be expected at an f4.7 ratio. A paracoor would fix this I think. Doesn't really effect you for looking at planets. I really expect a power cord to be included. Not the one that plug's into your cigarette lighter and it's only 6 feet long. Come on guys that kind of cheap and this telescope is NOT cheap it's high quality and deserves better. And the red dot finder scope really needs to be upgraded.
I am a beginner and wanted something that I wouldn't outgrow and this is it! I've had it out 4 times and it was very frustrating trying to set up the go to and getting the thing allined. But, I got it on the 4th night and I actually saw M42, there is no color to it, but I could still see it clearly defined WOW!!!!!!! Saturn? HA! You could see the gap between the planet and the rings. Once you figure out the controler, it's fun and amazing. Would I recommend this one? Would I buy it again? YES YES YES YES YES YES Well you get the idea.
Favorite viewing location:??My front yard (I keep fresh coffee for the police)
Favorite object to observe:??M42, Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune and the moon.
Pros: quality, 2" eyepiece, holds colimination, auto tracks like you wouldn't believe!
Cons: power cord?, red dot finder scope
Yes, I recommend this product!
