Whoever coined the phrase "big things come in small packages" would love the Orion StarMax 90 TableTop Mak-Cass telescope. This pint-sized powerhouse provides surprisingly big views, making it a fantastic first telescope or a pleasantly portable grab-and-go second telescope when you don't want to lug out the "big rig."

The long, 1250mm focal length (f/13.9) Mak-Cass optics give the StarMax 90 telescope some serious magnifying power — much more-so than reflector or refractor telescopes of similar aperture. And all in a tube that's just 11" long, including the accessory collar on the back end. The included 20mm and 10mm 4-element eyepieces yield powers of 62.5x and 125x magnification, respectively, to get in tight on your targets. Also, the StarMax's 90mm diameter aperture collects 225% more light than a traditional beginner's 60mm refractor telescope, so you'll see more celestial goodies. You'll be able to enjoy bright, detailed views of the battered lunar landscape, Saturn's picturesque rings, and Jupiter's meandering moons. As you scan the Milky Way, you'll also be wowed by the sights of well-resolved open and globular star clusters as well as brighter Messier nebulas. Focusing the telescope is easy by simply turning the large focusing knob on the back end of the telescope.

The optical tube assembly of the Orion StarMax 90mm TableTop Mak-Cass Telescope attaches to the stable, rotating base via a quick-release dovetail mount with adjustable altitude tension. The tube can easily be removed from the table-top base to be mounted on an optional photo tripod or a traditional altaz or EQ telescope mount, if desired.

Set the compact StarMax 90mm telescope on the ground, on a table in the back yard, or even on the hood of your car in the backcountry, and comfortably view the heavens to your heart's content. And if there isn't a table nearby, you can easily attach the StarMax 90's altazimuth base to a field tripod. A threaded 3/8"-16 socket on the bottom of the base can be coupled to any field tripod equipped with a standard 3/8" threaded post.

The StarMax 90mm TableTop Maksutov-Cassegrain comes with an array of great accessories to help you make the most out of each evening under the stars:

Use the included Orion E-Series Moon Filter to enhance your viewing enjoyment of the Moon.

The Orion E-Series 1.25" 13% Transmission Moon Filter reduces glare and boosts contrast so you can see enjoy more detailed views of lunar surface features. It blocks excessively bright glare to provide a more comfortable view of the Moon's surface, the neutral density filter will not alter the natural color of the Moon and the eyepiece filter transmits only 13% of the incoming light, improving contrast and detail.

Explore the Moon and identify its craters, spacecraft landing sites, and more with your telescope!

With locations and names of over 260 features on the Moon such as craters, mountains, valleys, and "seas", the Orion MoonMap 260 is a wonderful tool for all amateur astronomers. Keep it handy while you look through the telescope to help identify lunar features as you observe them. "Wow, that bright crater is named Tycho!"

star target

The Orion Star Target Planisphere is a useful star chart wheel for any day of the year.

This circular star map lets you dial-in the month and day you're observing the sky, so you can see exactly which constellations and stars will be visible if skies are clear. Using the Orion Star Target is a great way for starters to plan their first stargazing sessions with the telescope, since you'll know just where to point the telescope!

Double the power of any 1.25" telescope eyepiece with the Orion Shorty Barlow Lens.

Doublet lens system is multi-coated for excellent transmission and the internal housing is baffled to eliminate unwanted reflections and increase contrast. Threaded for use with 1.25" Orion telescope eyepiece filters.

OTOG book

Detailed Observer's Guide highlights over 60 celestial objects to observe in a small telescope.

Packed with helpful hints and tips for exploring star clusters, multiple stars, nebulas, and even the Andromeda Galaxy. Useful resources for each object include a map, finder scope view, depiction of what you can expect to see in your telescope eyepiece, and more. A thorough guide to the night sky for stargazers of all skill levels from beginners to more experienced amateur astronomers. Softbound, 174 pages.

Use the RedBeam Mini LED flashlight to see in the dark without disrupting dark-adapted vision.

You don't need a big flashlight to read star maps or see inside your accessory case at night. The included 2.5"-long Orion RedBeam Mini Flashlight does the job perfectly, emitting night-vision friendly red LED light. Red light won't disrupt your eyes' dark-adapted vision, so this flashlight lets you check charts and accessories while keeping your eyes primed for viewing celestial gems through your telescope. Includes batteries and a handy key-ring.

Reveal subtle markings and features with the included Color Filter Set.

The set of four color eyepiece filters that come in this kit will help enhance subtle details of the planets and the Moon by selectively increasing the contrast between markings of different hues. The included Set of Four Color Filters includes our most popular color planetary telescope eyepiece filters: #15 Deep Yellow, #25 Red, #58 Green, and #80A Medium Blue. These filters are vat-dyed for even color coating and then anti-reflection coated for maximum transmission.

One other feature of the StarMax 90mm telescope that is worth noting: Its optics never need adjusting, unlike with reflector telescopes, for example. The StarMax's Maksutov-Cassegrain optics are precisely aligned at the factory and fixed in place to insure maximum image sharpness, without need for the user to make any further tweaks.

So if the idea of an ultra-portable yet very powerful, take-anywhere telescope seems kinda cool to you, we've got just the ticket: the Orion StarMax 90mm TableTop Maksutov-Cassegain telescope. Get yours today and share the fun of space exploration with your family and friends.

NOTE: The StarMax 90mm telescope can be used for daytime terrestrial observing, but you will want to purchase a "correct-image" 1.25" diagonal so that the image seen in the eyepiece is oriented "normally." With the included star diagonal, views will be "mirror reversed." This is not an issue when observing objects in space, but for terrestrial viewing we recommend picking up a correct-image diagonal.
