Item #  09541

Although perfect for beginning stargazers, this tabletop reflector telescope is not a toy! With its substantial, 100mm aperture parabolic primary mirror boasting a 400mm focal length, the compact Orion StarSeeker 100mm TableTop Reflector telescope will amaze you and your family with gorgeous, detailed views of the night sky.

With this capable reflector, you can study the Moon’s cratered surface in detail, exploring highland mountains and vast, planar lunar “seas” of dark material. Bright planets like Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars shine bright in the SkyScanner 100mm Reflector, even when viewing from urban locations with mediocre seeing conditions. On especially clear evenings when viewing from areas with dark skies, the pint-sized Orion SkyScanner telescope can gather enough light for views of open and globular star clusters, bright cloudy nebulas, and even a few distant galaxies.

The SkyScanner includes two 1.25" eyepieces for magnification variety right out of the box. The included 20mm eyepiece provides moderate 20x power magnification, while the 10mm eyepiece boosts the view up to 40x power for higher magnification observations. Both eyepieces accept 1.25" Orion eyepiece filters (sold separately) so you can enhance views easily with specialty filters. An included Orion EZ Finder II reflex sight makes aiming the SkyScanner nice and “EZ.” After a simple alignment procedure, simply place the EZ Finder II’s red-dot on top of the area or object you want to see, and it will appear in the reflector telescope’s field of view.

The Orion SkyScanner 100mm TableTop Reflector is just the right size – large enough to see night sky objects yet compact enough to sit on a desk. Thanks to its small stature, the SkyScanner is a great grab-and-go telescope for visual adventures as close as the backyard table, or as far as your favorite remote dark sky site. More experienced amateur astronomers can use the easily portable SkyScanner 100mm Reflector as a quick-draw alternative to more complicated setups.

If there isn’t a table nearby when you want to use the SkyScanner 100mm TableTop Reflector telescope, you can easily attach its wooden altazimuth base to a field tripod. There is a threaded socket on the bottom of the telescope’s base so it can be coupled to a field tripod equipped with a 3/8” threaded post. A small 3/8”-to-1/4”-20 bushing is also included if you wish to attach the SkyScanner to a tripod featuring a 1/4”-20 threaded post. Alternatively, the SkyScanner 100mm Reflector optical tube can be separated from its base for attachment to any narrow-format dovetail saddle found on most Orion equatorial (EQ) and altazimuth mounts and tripods.

An amazing telescope value at an affordable price, the Orion SkyScanner 100mm TableTop Reflector is an ideal beginner’s telescope capable of providing hours of family fun exploring the cosmos.

First Scope, 5 Stars

I've attended a few star parties and been shopping for a starter scope for almost 6 months. After doing much research I learned that this scope is best bang for the buck. low focal ratio is a good thing. Lightweight, and super easy set-up. I would have given it a 4 star for being back ordered for over a month, but I wasn't charged for it until it was shipped, I was notified and easy tracking through UPS, and I received my scope a week earlier than expected and just 2 days after I was charged for it! Great Product, will buy filters and stronger lenses from orion in the near future.

I want to see what's up there.
Having had several "department store junk" scopes growing up, I wanted to buy a "real" scope this time. I was on a budget too, so I wanted to make sure I chose well. I had read reviews of several "starter scopes," and I decided to give the SkyScanner a try.
The skies had been cloudy when the telescope arrived, so I wound up having to wait a few days for good weather. On the first clear day I sighted the EzFinder II, using the strobe on a nearby cellphone tower as a reference. This too was my first look through the scope (obviously), and I was surprised how clear the tower looked.
That night I started by taking a look at the Moon. It was crescent, and I had read that the fun stuff is at the terminator, so I decided to concentrate there. I had my son come out and take a look, and he was surprised too at all the detail the scope shows.
I then turned my attention, and the scope (I like the sturdy base and smooth movement of the scope), towards Jupiter which was high overhead. I could easily see four of its moons, and could make out the bands across the planet.
To complete that evening, I wanted to see if I could find the Orion Nebula. I knew it was in the sword, and I figured this would be a good test of how well I had the finderscope sighted. I put the red dot on the middle star of the sword, and then looked in the eyepiece. It was like looking in a treasure chest. So many stars! I had no idea. And of course, in the center, was the nebula. It looked like a ghostly cloud. I don't know how long I stood there looking at it. It was simply amazing.
I like the scope's solid base and smooth adjustment. I like the two eyepieces provided. I'm looking forward to ordering the shorty 2x Barlow.
The SkyScanner's a great scope. I'm glad I got it.

This low cost scope is ideal for a go scope. It is easy to use, have good aperture size and very portable. This scope needs very little storage space and adapts quite easily to your existing 1.25mm eyepieces and other basic accessories.
This scope is not recommended as a main scope. Go with the orion xt6 or xt8. Get a good main scope and purchase accessories for it. Then use some of those accessories on the Orion SkyScanner since the supplied eyepieces are sub par.
Favorite viewing location:??Guyana
Favorite object to observe:??Swan Nebula, Orion Nebula, Jupiter, Saturn, Moon
Pros: good portable second scope, very affordable, good for skyscannning
Cons: not suitable as a main scope, economical only at low magnifications <60x, not good for planetary viewing
Yes, I recommend this product!
