Beginning astronomy enthusiasts seeking an affordable entry to astronomical adventure will get it in spades with an Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector Telescope. Great for all-around astronomical observing, this highly portable, uncomplicated telescope is just the right size and weight for all family members, and just the right price for parents.

The SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector Telescope makes the night sky’s treasures accessible right from the comfort of your own backyard. This inexpensive reflector telescope will amaze you with revealing views of Saturn’s picturesque rings, Jupiter’s moons, and the beautifully cratered terrain of our own Moon’s surface. Built around a 3" (76mm) diameter primary mirror, the Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector Telescope also gathers enough light to snare the faint glows of some very exotic star clusters and distant nebulas! The SpaceProbe 3’s focal length of 700mm (f/9.2) provides sharp views of cosmic curiosities the whole family can enjoy.

The aluminum Newtonian reflector optical tube features a 1.25" rack-and-pinion focuser to ensure sharp images in the telescope eyepiece. Speaking of which, each Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector includes  two interchangeable 1.25” Explorer II telescope eyepieces, a 25mm and a 10mm. The 25mm eyepiece will yield 28x power magnification in the SpaceProbe 3 while the 10mm eyepiece boosts the magnification up to 70x power. A wide-field EZ Finder II reflex sight is also included to aid in locating objects and aiming the telescope. An adjustable-height tripod with accessory tray and aluminum legs is also included with the SpaceProbe 3.

The Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth Reflector Telescope comes with an altazimuth mount which allows simple up/down and left/right motion.  The altazimuth mount is lightweight and easy to use for anyone on the family. (+Like all reflector telescopes, the SpaceProbe 3 is not recommended for terrestrial viewing on land as the images will not be right-side up.)

For the novice keen to discover what’s "out there," the affordable Orion SpaceProbe 3 Altazimuth reflector Telescope provides a wonderful opportunity!

Media Buzz

Sky & Telescope Magazine — December 2005

This telescope is absolutely fantastic for a $100 telescope or any beginner's telescope for that matter! We got our first views of the Supermoon tonight. We were also able to see the rings of Saturn and the Spica star of Virgo, which is unbelievable fora telescope under $100. This telescope has turned us into eager, novice astronomers and we will be back for an ungraded model when we outgrow this scope!

This is a wonderful telescope! I have not had one since i was a kid and being on a budget i did alot of research before finally making a purchase. The telescope is easy to put together. The red dot sight is wonderful for finding things once its set up. I was able to view Jupiter and four of its moons and also make out 1 of its bands. A moon/planet filter may help bring out more detail.Stars will appear is nice tight pinpoints of light. No moon viewing yet. I was also able to pick up NGC 1977 off of Orion's belt very well, it had a blueish haze. I was able to hit the M110 Galaxy orbiting the Andromeda Galaxy and it was very easy to see. I'm sure i would have found alot more things with this telescope if only i had more experience. But just a few hours under my belt this telescope is still calling my name to bring it outside. Also there was quite a bit of dew on the outside of the tube and on the red dot sight as the night went on leaving the red dot a bit difficult to use do to a halo effect but the picture in the telescope's eyepeice maintained VERY clear. The stand is very sturdy, once you let go of the telescope the view is stablized very quickly. It came with great software. and also two eye peices that were x28 and x70 magnification. I can't wait save up some cash to get another Orion telescope.

I bought this SpaceProbe3 for my kids for xmas this year, 2011, and just had the opportunity to use it. Skies were clear and we had a warm night in early january. I was looking forward to seeing how it all worked.
After checking out the craters on the moon, then taking a peak at Jupiter and it's moons...I was hooked and already want a bigger telescope! But this one, for the money is a great buy and a really nice piece of equipment for the price.
Thanks Orion!
Favorite object to observe:??The moon
