This complete telescope kit is packed with everything you need to enjoy safe views of the Sun during the day and stunning views of the Moon, planets and starry skies at night. This Sun & Moon Kit includes the Orion SpaceProbe 130ST EQ Reflector Telescope, a 6.58" ID Orion Full Aperture Glass Solar Filter, a 5-pack of Orion Solar Eclipse Safe Viewing Glasses, the Orion 2017 Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Guide, Orion MoonMap 260, and an Orion 13% Transmission Moon Filter.

Just what's so nifty about the Orion SpaceProbe 130ST Equatorial Reflector Telescope? The answer is best described as "short and sweet." First, the short. This "ST", or "Short Tube", version of the SpaceProbe 130 reflector is indeed more compact than the standard model. The 130ST reflector telescope's optical tube measures 24" long compared to 33" on the standard 130. The focal length of the ST's 130mm (5.1") primary mirror is 650mm (f/5), yielding a wider field of view and brighter images for a given telescope eyepiece focal length. That brings us to sweet. The 130mm aperture primary is a diffraction-limited parabolic mirror, the same type used on much larger reflector telescopes costing many times as much. On a short-focal-length design like this one, a parabolic mirror is a must for focusing incoming light to a point and delivering sharp, detailed images. Moreover, the secondary mirror is held in an advanced holder with thin 0.5mm metal vanes, to reduce diffraction spikes and light loss. These features combined with the included EQ-2 equatorial mount and included accessories described below make this one sweet optical system for astronomy!

7737 glass solar filter

6.58" ID Orion Full Aperture Glass Solar Filter

Attach this Full Aperture Glass Solar Filter to the SpaceProbe 130ST Reflector telescope to enjoy completely safe views of the Sun. Orion glass solar filters provide better contrast than mylar filters, displaying the Sun in a natural yellow-orange color. The glass filter elements are machine-polished and triple-coated with an advanced nickel-chromium stainless steel alloy for a scratch-resistant surface. The filter passes only a fraction of the incoming light, rejecting harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation. Each Orion telescope solar filter includes three equidistant thumbscrews, 4x 1/16" thick adhesive foam tabs, and 4x 1/8" thick adhesive foam tabs for customized friction fit to your telescope. A tight press fit is required for safe solar viewing.

Are you "totality" ready?

We're already excited about the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse! Events like eclipses certainly don't happen every day, and it's even rarer for the path of totality to be in our own backyard, or just a road trip away. If you want the best views of this rare event, you're in luck! Orion carries a full assortment of glass and safety film solar filters for telescopes and binoculars. We're your one-stop Solar Eclipse shop!

Eclipse Glasses

Orion Solar Eclipse Safe Viewing Glasses, 5-Pack

Each set of Orion Solar Eclipse Safe Viewing Glasses feature solar polymer film for safe direct viewing of the Sun. The solar film filters out 100% of harmful ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths of light, and they block 99.999% of intense visible light for a relaxing, comfortable and completely safe view of the Sun and the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. Since five pairs are included, you can safely share this rare experience with friends and family so no one feels left out!

Eclipse Guide

Orion 2017 Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Guide

The detailed Orion 2017 Total Solar Eclipse Viewing Guide is packed with useful hints and viewing tips written by eclipse enthusiast Stephen James O'meara to help you enjoy this rare spectacle from beginning to end. From first contact through totality and fourth contact, this guide explains everything you need to know and describes what to look for so you can understand and appreciate this awe-inspiring event.

Moon Filter

Once the Sun sets, use the included Moon Filter for great lunar views.

After sunset, the whole family will enjoy using the Orion SpaceProbe 130ST EQ Reflector to explore the Moon and many other interesting targets in space. The included Orion 13% Transmission Moon Filter helps improve your views of the Moon by reducing glare and enhancing contrast of lunar features like craters, mountains and valleys. The threaded filter is easy to install on the included 25mm and 10mm eyepieces.

The Orion SpaceProbe 130ST EQ Reflector Telescope Sun & Moon Kit also includes an Orion MoonMap 260. The included Orion MoonMap 260 is a useful reference map of the Moon's surface that will help the whole family learn the names and locations of more than 260 craters, mountains, valleys, "seas" and other interesting lunar features you can explore with your telescope.

CAUTION: Never look at the Sun, either directly or through a telescope, without a professionally made protective solar filter installed that completely covers the front of the instrument, or permanent eye damage could result.
