I received this filter set as a gift from my parents. I already owned the Mars filter set and was pleased with that product as well. I like the filter set for the quality of the product as well as the fact that you get 6 filters all conveniently stowed in an easy to carry case. Living near an airport the skyglow is pretty severe so the first night out I tried the skyglow filter. I was pleasantly surprised at the results as M81 and M82 were easier to see and had more contrast than the previous night I observed with identical conditions. The two objects were clearer and the background was closer to a black than observations without the filter. The results were equally pleasant when I viewed to the west which is dominated by a streetlight and a schoolyard.
The four planetary filters have been helpful when observing Saturn and Jupiter. I received the filters when Saturn was tilted with the rings edge on to earthbound observers. The yellow filter helped to reveal the rings and I managed to snap a nice photo of Saturn with the yellow filter that clearly shows the ring bulge. When viewing Jupiter the cloud bands were more pronounced as well. The best filter in the kit in my opinion is the variable polarizing moon filter. The filter is great for those nights when the moon is close to full or the air is very cold making the moon appear brighter. Looking through my 8" SkyView Pro at a near full or full moon with no filter is painful and you can see brightness on your hand as you insert different eyepieces. The filter turns down the brightness while increasing the contrast seen in the eyepiece and helps to eliminate eye fatigue on brighter moons. Using my 10mm eyepiece with the Orion 3x Barlow and moon filter produced a very nice sight in the eyepiece along the terminator at 300x magnification.
Helpful Hint: The case Orion includes resembles the case that holds a stack of CD-Rs. I retyped the information sheet describing what each filter does that Orion sends with the filters as a CD label and adhered it to the case for easy reference.

I have had this filter set since the spring of 2010. It has been pleasure to own and use. You get the most useful red, green, blue, and yellow Planetary filters, and not just a fixed density Moon filter, but the more costly and more flexible variable polarizing filter. You also get the Sky Glow light pollution filter with the set, which is also handy. And, everything fits into the nice included storage case. This is a great and cost effective way to start a planetary filter collection.

Stargazer Filter Set 1.25"

I bought the 8" Skyquest dob not long ago. I have been using a 5" Meade and had no trouble with the brightness of an object, including the moon. The 8" scope really brought that aspect to the front. The 1.25" filter set is great, and really needed for good viewing. The Moon adjustable filter is really nice. I used it with a 17mm 1.25" plossll eyepiece in a 2" Barlow lens and the results were really good. With a little expiermentation, the other color filters will come to good use. The Skyglow filter is something you have to try yourself. I had good results on a few summer nebulae, but waiting to try it on the Orion nubulae. I live in a moderate light pollutted area. Really a nice set and very well made. A plus to any collection. Brian
