The 1.25" Orion UltraBlock Narrowband telescope eyepiece filter is the filter of choice for deep-sky observers viewing from highly light-polluted sites.

Light pollution can significantly decrease the quality of telescopic views of deep-sky objectsThe UltraBlock filter blocks all forms of light pollution from incandescent and fluorescent lighting, including mercury vapor and sodium emission bands, while passing critical hydrogen-beta and ionized oxygen wavelengths. With an UltraBlock telescope eyepiece filter, emission and planetary nebulas "surface" from the washed-out background sky seen from light-polluted areas. With contrast increased, you’ll be able to discern more detail in deep-sky observations.

In dark skies, the UltraBlock also enhances the sky presence of a significant number of fainter deep-sky celestial objects. You'll see more of these faint nebulas, galaxies, and clusters with an UltraBlock compared to unfiltered and wideband-filtered views. You’ll simply see more with an Orion UltraBlock filter!

The handy 1.25” UltraBlock filter can be installed on any 1.25” filter-threaded Orion telescope eyepiece and many other brands.

I observe from a suburban location 19 miles north of Philadelphia. The light pollution is nothing short of staggering. Despite this, as an enthusiastic backyard astronomer, I built a dedicated observatory to permanently house my trusty 10" Meade LX50. I spent 5 hours under the stars on an unusually clear evening on August 30. I used my tried and true O III and deep sky filters with some success but in frustration, decided to use your ultrablock light pollution filter which I had purchased about a year ago. The results were amazing. Your ad reads "you will see stuff you never thought you'd see" or something to that effect. It's an incredible understatement. Of all the targets I observed, I was unable to see the Veil and California Nebulae. Everything else was clearly visible. After the first three objects, I started calling your filter "Saint Glowbuster." It only takes three miracles to declare someone a saint. This is a great product. Thanks for giving me back the night sky. Everyone who owns a telescope should own one of these things.

I live in a very light polluted condo complex and was able to view M42's outer nebulosity through an 8 inch Meade schmidt cass telescope at about 50 X. The Pleadies cluster was a more challenging object. Some nebulosity could be detected but do to extraineous light good dark adaption was next to impossible. As yet I haven't attempted photography but from what I've seen visually it should be stunning.
Yes, I recommend this product!

I live in a moderate high light polluted area and hoped to use this filter to enhance my views of the brighter Nebulas. My 6" dobsonian does a great job and generally picks up +6 magnitude and brighter nebulas as faint smudges. Unfortunately this narrowband filter reduces all light so much that most are no longer visible when using it, regardless of eyepiece or darkness.
I'll hang on to it for now. Maybe I can use it to justify getting a bigger scope.
Pros: fits my 1.25" orion eyepieces
Cons: useless on my 6" dobsonian

Enhances the nebulosity around M42, The Lagoon, etc. Turns stars blue and dims them. I don't know how this one compares to other brands because it's the only one I've looked through.
