This flashlight is extremely helpful. When I go outside I always carry it. With it, I can look at my star maps with using the cellphone's light. Very portable, easy to use, long battery life.

I've had mine for some time and have never had a problem with it. It's been durable although I have never dropped it.
I just now found myself needing to change the battery out, which is why I am posting this.
The instructions say to push on the roll knob until the assembly comes out from the housing.
I used a thin needle nose pliers and gently pulled it loose.
As for variable brightness I have to say it is sufficient. As for cost I agree that it should sell in the $12-$15 range at the most.

I like that the light can be changed from red to blue, but I'm not fond of this device's tendency to come apart. Whenever I use this, I have to make sure the covering is on over the light bulb end, because it just comes off too easily. Since the interior parts can too easily fall out, I won't hang it around my neck anymore, but just stuff it in my pocket.

I purchased this light in hopes of keeping it in my astronomy toolbox. After the second outing, it broke. Yes, I had it in a case with other accessories and so it was probably banged around, but it should have been more durable than it was. I switched to a headlamp shortly thereafter.
No, I do not recommend this product.
