I purchased this because most flashlights waste batteries like it is their (expletive) job!! and it proved to be very useful. I don't have to waste time hunting for batteries. They could have featured a cell phone adapter for my LG. However, this is a must for anybody

Very, very useful flashlight. It's bright on high... but not too bright for effective use. Even small bursts of white light really mess up your night vision. It's so much easier to have a burst of red light to find or adjust something and then immediately be able to continue with your viewing or astrophotography. After your eyes are well dark-adapted, the low position may be sufficient light for all night use! Wind it up for at least a minute - especially the first time - to be sure the battery is properly "formed" (I believe that's the term) and it should give you many more wind-ups and many nights of use. I haven't used it much since I got it due to many more stormy and cloudy nights than expected but it seems to be well built and sturdy.

Great little LED light. A good charge can last all night and no worries if it runs out...simply wind up for about 45-60 seconds and get 10 to 15 minutes of light.

After years of lugging around a full sized flashlight with 2 "D" cell batteries and a red lens, I thought I would give the Orion RedBeam SP Self-Powered LED Flashlight a try. I should have bought two! The unit never needs batteries, has two intensity levels, one for finding your way and one for studying charts. It is flat so won't roll away or off your table, and will fit easily in your pocket. Highly recommended, although a bit pricey for a "flashlight"
Favorite viewing location:??Maine
Favorite object to observe:??M13 globular cluster in Hercules
Pros: lightweight, compact and flat, no batteries
Cons: a bit pricey
