Great Case

I now own two Orion Pluck-Foam cases. The first one I bought six or more years ago when my eyepiece collection out grew the case I was using. The aluminum exterior is looking a little beat up but the case is in other wise very good condition. I ordered a new black version case along with replacement foam for the older case last year when my eyepiece collection again out grew the case. The new exterior is a nice improvement in this great case. After a year the second case still looks good as new. I expect to get many more years use from both cases and wish Orion would offer a Pluck-Foam option for the two smaller deluxe accessory cases.

This is an absolutely fantastic Orion product. The best thing about this case is when you get a new eyepiece or accessory and then figure out what organization YOU want it to be in. I enjoyed having multiple options in ways to group and arrange things.
I'll admit, I didn't do the best or most efficient planning at first, but everything still worked out great. I really like how you can make odd shaped things like finder scopes fit perfectly and securely. I included a photograph of how I arranged my things so far for reference.
Now there are a few things to be aware of. Although the construction of the case in all feels secure, the metal around the edges is a bit thin, so don't expect it to hold up extremely well if dropped on a hard surface. The edges can also sometimes be kind of stubborn and not want to line up perfectly.
Otherwise, this is a very solid, very useful accessory case. Oh, and a bit of planning can go a long way. Generally two blocks between things is best. In some cases though, just one line of blocks will do the trick. Just know that it won't hold things as securely.

I picked this up at Orion's accessory sale several years ago. After a little time laying out eyepieces, etc and considering what I might add in future, I started plucking foam. Even though my 'kit' has changed a little the case is still very functional. RIght now there is a grid of pluck-outs holding a big 2-inch eyepiece, a couple of bulky wide fields, a Barlow, 3 Ultrascopics and 3 Radians. Plus a red dot finder, several 1.25 and 2 inch filters, a 1.25 diagonal, and an extra set of wedge bolts and allen wrenches for telescope mount. In the unplucked areas between all those things or above the smaller eyepieces, I can lay a couple of red flashlights, Deepmap 600 or Pocket Star Atlas, and slow-motion cables, all of which stay put when the case is shut. I'm careful to make sure the latches engage - if bumped just right one can partially release. For car transport, this works great. It keeps observing gear together, safe from dust and shocks. The case is deep and large enough to hold large eyepieces or a 2-inch diagonal, a 50mm finderscope etc. The rectangular shape makes the case stable when open while observing. At outreach I close and latch between eyepiece changes - in the worst case, if someone bumps the observing table, the closed case will protect all that glass.

I ordered this case so that I wouldnt have to carry my eyepieces and other equipment around in their original boxes. The case is very nicely padded and hase tons of room. The latches are cheaply made but that doesn't really matter seeing as I didn't buy it to keep people for stealing my stuff. The case is quite deep and almost all of my eyepieces can fit standing up. It is very convenient to be able to arrange your stuff however you want it.
