This is a very solid, beefy, mount extension. It is an absolute must for anyone who owns an Atlas and doesn't want to risk their scope banging into a tripod leg during a goto slew. This product is so important that it really should be packaged with the Atlas itself. Since it's not, you may be tempted to buy an atlas without the mount extension. Do yourself a favor and order the extension at the same time you order your atlas. It will save you a lot of time and headache.

This tube works great! I use it with a 6" refractor on my Atlas mount. However, the original bearing interface is a problem, you must either cinch it so tight that the bearings are squished or it will be too loose, and forms an interface that allows slop in the mount. I fixed this by removing the ball bearings and races altogether and cutting a teflon sheet that fit between the extension and the mount, a "u" shaped piece that left a gap for the azimuth adjusting post. With this setup I could tighten the mounting bolt sufficiently to allow no slop in the system yet easily use the azimuth adjusting knobs to adjust azimuth for a perfect polar alignment.
The previous reviewer says that the extension tube must be removed from the mount each time it is used, I have found with the teflon bearing I made that I can leave the extension attached to the mount.
Favorite viewing location:??Anderson Mesa, AZ or Mt. Kobau, Brittish Columbia, Canada
Favorite object to observe:??Mars
Pros: does a great job.
Cons: the ball bearing system is a problem.
Yes, I recommend this product!

Yes, it does fit the CGEM mount as well as the Atlas. It does it's intended purpose and has good fit and finish. Be aware that in order to use it, it must be disassembled each and every time used, unless you leave the mount head attached full time to the extension and tripod. Probably OK if you roll it out of the garage on a dolly, but an absolute pain if you travel with it. Seems like it should be supplied with a new, longer center screw that wood attach the lower end to the tripod as well as the upper adapter to the mount. In order to detach the mount, you must unscrew three set screws on either the top or bottom of the extension to remove the upper adapter from the mount base. Would have been so much easier to just supply a longer threaded rod to pass entirely through the extension or to have a cutout on the side of the extension to simply put your hand in to unscrew the extension's top adapter from the mount base. As I have said, good fit and finish, pretty rugged, but they forgot to go the extra step to make it easy to use. Five stars for build quality, but only two stars for execution of a decent design.
