This SynScan handbox is very simple to use, setup and has some cool features like Temp sensor which is good for setting my Meade DSI-Pro one that doesnt have a built in CCD temp sensor like the DSI 2 does so when I setup my Images up I can use the SynScan temp sensor to set the software before taking any Images, The handbox Volts meter is good to have so you'll know when your running out of juice. I also like using the Shoestrings EQDIR Interface Module and EQCBL-01 Adapter cable to control the mount using Ascom software which really replaces the SynScan handbox completly. If you dont have this handbox and dont want to pay (the current price) you can buy the $39.00 module and the $19.00 EQCBL-01 cable and use your Sirius/Atlas mount w/o the need for this all together! You will have to use a computer all the time to control the mount, So it really makes sence to buy the SynScan so you dont need to have a computer to run the mount. The EQDIR does have alot more features then the basic handbox here.

The SynScan worked great until the LCD screen got broke. Even though it is a put in LCD screen I can't find a replacement. The only solution given to me was to purchase a new one for $400.00. It's very upsetting to thing the replacement screen would have to cost $400.00. Especially when the controller I have still work very good I just can read all the information that is on the screen. For this I give a bad review..... Maybe someone else knows where I can retro fit a different LCD screen or find this replacement one. Sincerely Mike ,This situation appears to qualify for warranty replacement.

serial cable supplied isn't compatible with current pc's, you will have to buy a usb/serial adaptor for $40.00. Device worked fine, but you'll have to update right away
