You've just managed to center a hard-to-find object in your low-magnification eyepiece's field of view. After several moments of admiration, you decide to zoom in for a closer look. But that usually means swapping out your eyepiece several times, as you increase magnification. The slightest bump or jiggle, and you may have to relocate and center the object all over again. Suppose after several swaps to zoom in, you realize the object is best-viewed at low magnification?

With Orion's new Premium Zoom Telescope Eyepiece, the problem is solved! The Premium Zoom is an elegant and convenient alternative to using multiple telescope eyepieces of differing focal lengths to achieve views of differing magnification. With the Premium Zoom, you simply adjust the focal length up or down according to your preference, without having to remove the eyepiece from the telescope focuser.

The Orion Premium Zoom Telescope Eyepiece features a focal range of 22.5mm to 7.5mm, with marked indicators for settings of 7.5mm, 12mm, 17mm and 22.5mm. The wide range of focal lengths allows you to enjoy the finer details of an object, as well as its more apparent features, while leaving the eyepiece securely seated in the focuser. The large ocular lens provides comfortable viewing with a 42 degree apparent field of view at 22.5mm, and a 66 degree field of view at 7.5mm.

The telescope eyepiece, which consists of eight lens elements in five groups, is fully multi-coated (all air-to-glass surfaces) with anti-reflection coatings for clear, crisp views. The lens edges have been blackened to prevent glare. Dual-purpose threading of the 1.25" barrel enables the eyepiece to be used with Orion filters, while also preventing glare.

The Orion Premium Zoom, made of black anodized aluminum construction, was designed with viewing comfort in mind. It features generous eye relief of 19.5mm at the 22.5mm focal length setting and 18mm at the 7.5mm focal length setting. A twist-up rubber eyeguard and rubber knurled grip ring for focal length adjustment round out the aesthetic features of this high-quality, high-performance telescope eyepiece.

Weighs 10 oz. Dust caps are included.

I caught this on sale a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't be more pleased!
Last night, I went out on a small mountain range, and I got some absolutely magnificent. breathtaking views of Saturn and its rings along with four its moons. The optical clarity was so sharp that I had a hard time persuading myself that I was actually viewing Saturn through a telescope and not on an HDTV!
I stuck my 2x Barlow onto the end of it later in the night, and was able to get much closer with zero change in clarity until I reached 7.5mm (160x x2 = 320x). However, the drop in clarity was hardly noticeable, and I assume it had much more to do with surpassing the XT8's maximum useful magnification (300x) than it did with the optics themselves.
All in all, this eyepiece is definitely worth the price, and I'd have paid full price if I had to!
Favorite object to observe:??Saturn
Pros: superb clarity
Yes, I recommend this product!

I am a RAW beginner. I received my Orion XT10i a few weeks ago. This is one of the eyepieces I ordered with the scope. I read a lot of information and reviews and I decided to have one "better" eyepiece and the zoom seemed to be a great option since it was 7.5 to 22.5. This is 54x to 160x on my scope.
This is now my primary eyepiece. It has an adjustable eye cup and smooth zoom action. You do have to re-focus when you zoom. This is a minor issue for me. I have a lot of photography experience with 35mm SLR. I relied on Zoom lenses to get my photos framed quickly. This zoom gets the same job done. I have a Dobsonian and the object gets out of frame sometimes. I can zoom out, re-center, and zoom back in without using the finder scope. I can do this and maintain the zoomed-in focus setting.
With the finders scopes well aligned, I can rapidly move to a new location and the 22.5 picks up the object, even when I am using the barlow.
I am not experienced enough to evaluate all the nuances of the eyepiece. I can tell you that objects look crystal clear to me.
Favorite viewing location:??Springtown, TX in my driveway
Favorite object to observe:??Saturn/Jupiter/Orion
Pros: easy to use, adjustable eye cup, good field of view, smooth zoom, great range 7.5 to 22.5
Cons: no complaints
Yes, I recommend this product!

I do not know why I waited so long to purchase the zoom eyepiece. It easy to use and no more changing eyepieces in the dark. Going from 22.5 mm to 7.5mm, with with just a slight refocus, makes a night of planet and galaxy viewing pleasurable. Sybil Arnold-Austin Astronomy Society,Texas
