If you are one of the legions of folks who have "upgraded" to a big-screen television set lately, then you've probably become spoiled by its wonderfully expansive picture.

Well, if you are a telescope user, you will be equally spoiled by the wide-field window into the heavens served up by this 24mm Orion Stratus Wide-Field Telescope Eyepiece. With an apparent field of 68° — which translates to a 71% greater viewing area than that of a typical 52° Plossl, this telescope eyepiece quite literally puts more stars in your eyes. In the same way you feel more a part of the action watching a big-screen TV, with this Stratus "sixty-eight" you will feel like you are really experiencing your celestial targets, rather than just viewing them from afar. You'll never go back to Plossls again!

But it isn't just the Stratus' field of view that will widen your eyes. This telescope eyepiece has a sophisticated eight-element optical configuration that features a monster 1-1/4"-diameter eye lens to look into. It has a substantial 15mm eye relief, so you'll get the "big picture" even if you wear eyeglasses. The optics are fully multi-coated to maximize light transmission to your eyes, and the lens edges are blackened to ensure excellent contrast.

This 24mm Orion Stratus Wide-Field Telescope Eyepiece fits in both 1.25" and 2" focusers. It sports fold-down rubber eyeguards and a knobby rubber grip. The chrome barrel features a setscrew security recess and is threaded for filters. The telescope eyepiece comes with protective lens and barrel caps.

5 The 24mm Orion Stratus Wide-field Eyepiece is low powered and allows you to see a huge amount of the sky. It is great for viewing nebulae and deep sky objects, and with the fully multi-coated optics you get bright, sharp, high-contrast images.

I do most of my observing from the city, a suburb of Los Angeles, and the viewing is definitely not optimal. I decided to purchase the Orion Stratus 24mm eyepiece and boy, I was not disappointed. The extra wide field of view was phenomenal! It allowed much richer views of star clusters and star fields making it easier to find the elusive deep sky objects so hard to spot in the city. I feel it was the best eyepiece purchase I have ever made. Thank you!

I purchased three of the Stratus eyepieces this year. I knew they were good when I asked a fellow observer (with 30 years experience) to put them in his 16" and compare mm to mm what he saw. His comments: He would not have known the difference between my Stratus eyepieces and his Naglers if he was not told. That's good enough for me to order a full set.

The eyepiece performs very well but I purchased this 2nd 24mm stratus to use with my binoviewer. I did notice that the barrel on this new eyepiece was black annodized rather than being chrome plated on the barrel as with all my other Stratus eyepieces. Somewhat disappointed about that since they don't match and its a cheaper method of manufacturing. Other than than a great price and a great eyepiece!
