Now even the casual telescope user can enjoy the benefits of zoom eyepiece technology. A twist of the affordable 7-21mm Orion Explorer II Zoom Telescope Eyepiece housing changes the focal length from 21mm to 7mm, or to any focal length in between. That makes it ideal for locating an object at low magnification, then zooming in at higher magnifications for closer inspection. Without changing eyepieces! Actual magnification range will depend on the focal length of your telescope. It works equally well for astronomical or terrestrial viewing. This four-lens telescope eyepiece boasts fully coated optics and exceptionally long eye relief ranging from 33mm to 16mm. Apparent field of view is 30-deg at 21mm and 43-deg at 7mm. Rubber traction ring ensures a good grip. The 1.25" barrel is threaded for filters. A nice value in a quality zoom eyepiece!

9 The great thing about zoom eyepieces is that you can locate an object at low power and then just zoom in with no switching of eyepieces. The 7-21mm Orion Explorer II zoom telescope eyepiece has fully coated optics and long eye relief.

This zoom eyepiece works as advertised. It comes in handy to search for objects and then bring them in for a closer look without having to change eyepieces. The movements are smooth and little effort is needed. There is a small light loss on the more powerful settings but this is happening to me because i am using it with a 2x Barlow which is changing the eyepiece from a 7-21MM to a 3.5-10.5mm. When i use the eyepiece as a 7-21mm it is clear and sharp. I recommend this piece is you want to take advantage of your stargazing time by eliminating eyepiece changeover time. Moon gazing is awesome with this eyepiece, its really nice to see wide view of craters and then zoom in on areas for closer view all in the same session without stepping back to change eyepieces.

As an economy zoom eyepiece it does the job but do not expect a high quality image from it. I bought it and use it for star testing, collimation and lining my CCD to what ever I am imaging in my flip mirror- saves swapping eye pieces. It does these jobsvery well but if you are looking for something to get good image detail at the lower F stops you would be wise to spend some more money a get a better quality zoom.

I found this to be a decent Eyepiece for my case. The one I got is very hard to turn. I have to remove it from the focuser then set the MM I want then put it back in the focuser. But, the views of the moon and planets are very good even at 7MM. I have a10" DOB and it works very well with this scope. I can easily see the Great Red Spot on Jupiter, as well as the cloud bands and the clouds at the poles. Saturn is just amazing. All in all, good quality EP for this price range. It gives you a lot of choices. Good product.
