  • Delivers a 3x magnification boost to any 1.25" telescope eyepiece, greatly increasing your available viewing magnifications
  • For example: The Orion Tri-Mag 3x Barlow makes a 15mm eyepiece yield the same magnification as a 5mm eyepiece (15/3 = 5)
  • Great for high-power lunar and planetary observations
  • Perfect for extracting higher powers from short-focal-length telescopes
  • Threaded to accept standard 1.25" Orion eyepiece filters

Item #  08704

When you need a lot more power than your telescope eyepieces alone can provide, we suggest using  the 1.25" 3x Orion Tri-Mag Barlow Lens. It gives a big 3x magnification boost to any 1.25" telescope eyepiece it’s used with, ideal for “zooming in” on observational targets for a closer look. This 3x power boost is desirable for lunar and planetary observing, and for extracting higher powers from optically "fast" telescopes such as f/5 and f/4 refractors and reflectors.

For long-exposure astrophotography, the power amplification provided by the Tri-Mag 3x Barlow Lens allows more precise guiding and use of a shorter focal length guide scope, such as a rich-field refractor (e.g., the Orion ShortTube 80). With the Orion Tri-Mag 3x Barlow you can use longer-focal-length telescope eyepieces to achieve high powers, which offers the benefits of better edge sharpness and more comfortable eye relief (optimal distance between your eye and the eye lens) than you’d get using an equivalent high-power eyepiece without the Barlow.

The Orion Tri-Mag 3x Barlow utilizes a multi-coated achromatic "negative" lens that effectively triples the focal length of the telescope’s optics. The Tri-Mag Barlow Lens housing is precision machined from aluminum and black anodized to a hard finish to stand up to years of use. Both the Barlow housing and the chrome portion of the barrel are glare threaded and internally blackened to provide maximum contrast and eliminate distracting reflections. The lens end of the Tri-Mag Barlow barrel is threaded to accept standard 1.25” telescope eyepiece filters.

Power-up your telescope eyepiece collection and your telescope’s performance with the new 1.25” 3x Orion Tri-Mag multi-coated Barlow Lens.

Length, 5". Weighs 5.8 oz.

Its a very nice lens for a decent price. It works very good. I used it last night and could see details on Jupiter and 4 of it's moons.

I am so happy that my wife was able to see saturn, for the first time with such detail with the eye releif that the 26mm eyepiece offers, along with the magnification and clarity that this barlow provides. With our Space Probe 130ST the combination of the barlow and the 26mm eyepiece offer way better size and detail, that using our other 9.7 eyepiece by itself. Superb! This is the ideal solution for the people who wears glasses, and need the eye releif of "larger" eye pieces.

I bought this Barlow to go along with my Orion XT8 Dob Classic Telescope. After ordering it, I was thinking I should've gone with the 2x, after some people said it was too powerful. I got it, placed in my scope, along the XT8's included 25mm plossl eyepiece, and it worked pretty good. The Views: The Moon looked amazing with just the 25mm, and when I added the Barlow, it looked pretty good through it. Most people wouldn't recommend a 3x Barlow with a 25mm eyepiece on the Moon, but it wasn't a bad view. The contrast was dulled, and some of the edges became fuzzy like, but it still popped with awesome detail. Mars without the Barlow seemed like a small red disk. For the most part, the Barlow just increased the size when I added it, making it slightly fuzzier, but it didn't enhance, or add any detail to it. It was just slightly bigger. Venus was the same way. Saturn, on the other hand, was an awesome view with the Barlow. Even with weakened contrast, and fuzzy edges, you could still see awesome detail, slight cloud bands, a line for the shadow created by the rings. And of course the rings looked good too. I could also see 8 of Saturns moons. Although, you of course would be better off just buying a 8mm eyepiece (or smaller), instead of turning a 25mm into an 8mm with this Barlow. But it would be better used for turning much larger eyepieces (75mm), into smaller mm'er eyepieces. Hope this review helps anyone who needs it!
