I first purchased the 102mm Premium Refractor about 8 months ago and the scope has really grown on me. It is now the only scope that I use for astrophotography. I am a DSLR imager and have had great success with the combination of my Canon XT and XSi and thias scope. I have recently purchased a, Astro-Tech field flattener which, in combination with this scope has produced the best images I have done yet. I would highly recommend this scope to the price conscious astronomer/astrophotographer that wants an excellent ED scope for a little bit of money.

I ordered this telescope because I had several others including Schmidt-Cassegrains, Newtonians, but no refractors. When it arrived I was impressed by the quality of the construction, the compact size and the nice heft, indicating good quality but the lightness that made it very portable, unlike the larger scopes that I own. At dusk, I mounted it on my Atlas drive, and took it outside at my home, between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas--to say the best a light polluted area. The contrast that I got from this scope was wonderful, even in polluted skies. It works beautifully with my Atlas mount. I intend to use this scope for traveling and similar uses where a compact, high quality scope is in order.

I have been wanting to add to my Orion 10 inch reflector a good refractor for imaging. Been using a Celestron 6 inch refractor. Color issues have been a real pain to deal with. Purchasing this 102mm ED has been the best buy so far. Color issues gone. Sharp and tight star images all the way to the edge. Mechanics are top notch. I love the rotating focus. Focusing using MaximDL is a snap. Only issue is Orion needs to design a new bracket adapter to use the electric focuser they sell. Manual focus in the mean time works very well. Images with the Parsec and Star Shoot Pro V2 are excellent with this scope. Thinking of a small powerful refractor? Buy this, you will love it.
Favorite viewing location:??San Jose California
Favorite object to observe:??Any gas cloud. Rosette Nebula. Orion of course.
Pros: light and very portable
Cons: rotator needs a scale.
Yes, I recommend this product!

This is a great buy. The optics have an excellent figure and deliver sharp views with no false color. Every bit as good as the Tak FS102 I owned about a year ago. You will not be disappointed with this one at all.
