Orion Precision Centering Adapter

This is a Must Have and a Total Pleasure
to make switching eyepieces better than
eating your favorite cake. So much
better than tweaking set screws.. Quick,
precise and worth every penny. It will
make your scope "Deluxe"...and if you
use a laser collumnator like I do...than
its necessity for a sure alignment.

This gives precise, REPEATABLE
centering of your collimator. I have
previously purchased another self-
centering collimator from another
company but returned it as it did not
give repeatable results and was more
expensive. I've been an Orion customer
for 10 years and will continue to be!
Bravo Orion!

I got this for use with a Celestron collimation
tool (cheshire and sight tube). I do like it better
than the standard 2" to 1.25" adapter, but for
collimation there is a design flaw.
Inside there is a strip of rubber that constricts
or loosens when you turn it to tighten or
loosen. I assume this is to prevent metal-on-
metal contact so eyepieces and such don't get
marred. However, at the standard 1.25" size,
there is a gap in the rubber (between the two
ends of the strip). Thus if you tilt the eyepiece
or collimation tool, etc it can wobble into that
gap. If the strip of rubber were a tad longer this
wobble could be eliminated.
With a little guesswork, I believe I was able to
find the right tilt for collimation, but for the
price, I was hoping for more precision than this
provides.

I wish I had got this sooner. It had
always bothered me when I was
collimating that when I tightened the
laser or the cheshire that they'd move.
And never in the same way.
Those days are over. Every time I
check my collimation upon putting my
telescope together I'm assured that
whatever I'm using to check collimation
will be dead center in the focuser.
Twisting the laser around does not
change where it's aimed.
I've seen other adapters simular to
Orion's but not only were they more than
twice the price I saw nothing with them
to justify that cost.
Orion's adapter is well engineered and
well worth the small price for the peace
of mind it gives me.

The precision centering device does the
job for me. I insert my laser collimater
into the device, tighten the ring and
then I can collimate with no wobble.......

I bought it specifically for the laser
collimator (which, I found, was too
wobbly in the eye-piece to be of ANY use
for collimating).
Turns out the two should be bundled
together. Because of that I give the
eyepiece adapter 5 stars, and the laser
collimator 2 stars.

I thought my scope was well collimated
till I inserted this "lock in" device. I
was off a fair amount. This is worth
getting.

I bought the Lasermate Deluxe
Collimator with my XT8 Intelliscope
about 9 months ago and was
disappointed to find that because the
Lasermate was ending-up positioned off-
center when in the 1.25" focuser adapter
and the thumbscrew tightened, I couldn't
get anything remotely approaching
accurate collimation, and have instead
been using the standard Collimation Cap
supplied with the telescope.
Until I bought the Orion Precision
Centering Adapter (PCA) that is!
I removed the standard 1.25" adapter
and replaced it with the PCA. Now the
Lasermate sits perfectly centered and I
was able to perfectly collimate the
telescope. In fact, using the Lasermate
with the PCA, I even found that my
secondary mirror has been out of
alignment all this time. But it's aligned
correctly now! Now I have sharper,
clearer views of the stars and planets.
All thanks to this little adapter!
The PCA is an absolute MUST if you own
the Lasermate Deluxe. In fact, I think all
telescopes should come with this focuser
adapter instead of the standard one,
because using it with an eyepiece means
the eyepiece is also perfectly centered
and therefore you'll know you're getting
the most precision and performance
possible from your telescope.
One important tip I found was to make
sure the PCA is fully tightened around
the Lasermate when collimating. This will
ensure the unit is perfectly centered and
that there is no 'play' possible in its
position. Once I did this, the Lasermate
collimation process worked perfectly and
I was very pleased (and somewhat
relieved) to find that everything was also
perfectly aligned when I checked it
through the standard Collimation Cap
peephole afterwards.
The Lasermate is so much easier to use
than the standard Collimation Cap for
quick collimations out in the field. Finally
I can use my Lasermate Deluxe for its
intended purpose, instead of just using it
to play with the cat! I am so grateful to
Orion for making this adapter! Thank
you!

What can I say about this? It's just a
great item to have. If you have a 2"
focuser, get one of these. It does just
what it says it does. I like the twist
ring to lock and unlock the Eyepiece. No
more having to mess around with a small
thumb screw to insert and remove an
eyepiece.
I still don't quite understand how it
gets the eyepiece centered, when you
insert the adaptor in your focuser you
would think it would be off when you
tighten the screw to lock in this
adaptor. But, it doesn't seem to make a
difference.
My cheshire collimating eyepiece shows
dead on alignment. Every 2" focuser
should have one of these from the start.
It's a great adaptor, well made and does
just what it says.
Nice job guys! Great product I recommend
it very highly.

When I got my new telescope with a 2"
focuser, it came with a 2"-1.25" adapter
which uses a compression ring to
'center' the eye piece. All the
compression ring succeeded in doing is
grabbing onto my EP's when I tried to
pull them out, or get in the way of my
EP's when I try to put a new one which
would then jar the telescope and I'd
loose my target. Oh, and the
compression ring didn't center it any
better than the standard 2 thumbscrews
would.
This product should become the standard
EP holder on all scopes, not just as an
adapter. It doesn't grab onto my EP's
and the movement is very smooth.
This is an amazing product and a must
have for anyone needing a 2" to 1.25"
adapter.
When Orion offers a dual speed focuser
with this as it's primary way of holding
the EP's, I'll be one of the first in
line to get it!

This is the product I've been waiting
for. I own a 16" Lightbridge and a Meade
collimator. No matter what I tried the
collimator always jiggled inside the
focuser. I even spent a lot of $ on a
JMI focuser, same result. I gave up and
parked the Lightbridge. Now with this
product I get solid collimation easily.

I've been waiting years for such a well-
made and welcomed accessory to come
along, and leave it to Orion Telescopes
to offer it at a bargain-basement price. I
know of no one else producing such a
device, at any price!
Once I collimate my telescope using a
Chesshire or laser collimator I can be
assured the actual viewing eyepiece will
be positioned precisely the same as the
collimator. Additonally, the Precision
Centering Adaptor holds the eyepiece
safely and snugly in the focuser.
