For anything more than casual use you need a tripod that's very stable, strong enough to withstand some serious abuse, and yet moves with fluid smoothness. Our Paragon professional tripods fill the bill, providing heavy-duty support for giant binoculars, cameras, spotting scopes, and telescopes such as the Orion ShortTube 80 Refractor telescope, Apex 90, 102 and 127 Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes, GrandView and Arcadia spotting scopes, and Resolux and GiantView binoculars.

The Orion XHD Paragon-Plus Tripod is constructed almost exclusively of aluminum, making it stronger at key stress points where other tripods fail. It features large, adjustable aluminum-tube legs with ridged helical locks. The legs are tri-braced to the center elevator housing for extra stability. This paragon-plus tripod is tall when fully extended, putting binoculars easily at eye level for most people.

This extra heavy-duty tripod holds heavier loads. Tube legs 1-1/4" max. dia.; each leg laterally braced with dual 3/4" aluminum tubes. Elevator shaft 1-1/8" dia., 11-3/4" travel. Height fully extended 67"; folds to 34". Weighs 9 lbs.

The Orion XHD Paragon-Plus tripod comes with a two-way fluid-type pan head. It features tension adjustment knobs on both axes for wonderfully smooth, controlled motion. The pan head can be raised or lowered on its aluminum rack-and-pinion elevator post with a hinged hand crank. Panning is easy with the 11"-long adjustable handle. The quick-release 1/4"-20 dovetail shoe makes attaching and detaching your instrument from the pan head a snap. Other nice features include convertible cushion/spike feet and built-in bubble level. One-year limited warranty.

I'm very satisfied overall. What I like: Lightweight. Well constructed. Quick set up and take down. Attractive, adaptive, and functional. What I don't like: The handle has to be completely removed to change its angle (a screw and washer has to be removed). I'd rather see a captured fastener and maybe some type of interrupted tongue and groove or a spring loaded key and slot design. But this is a minor complaint.

Quality=5, design=5. $ value=5, shipping cost and time=5. It supports my Orion Apex 127 very well. I have another tripod from another company that was advertised as "heavy duty" and it is flimsy compared to the Orion. Overall I am highly pleased with this Orion tripod. Dale Mikkelson

Have had this for a couple of months and am very satisfied. The tripod drag must be tightned down to work properly with an ST-80 scope, but once it's limits are understood, it is very acceptable. I recommend this for anyone wanting a multi purpose tripod.

I can't beat the features for the price. Here's what I love about this tripod: 1. Strength. It is a very solid mount that travels very well. If it gets knocked around there's no harm done. 2. Smoothness. I can track objects flawlessly and easily. Very slick. 3. A quality build and it looks it.

Will serve my purpose, a little on the heavy side which will be a benefit for me later on.

I had long been looking for a reasonably-priced tall tripod that would hold my spotting scopes firmly, without any "shake". I had about given up hope when I came across Orion's Paragon- Plus XHD tripod. It looked good, so I ordered one. This tripod provides SOLID support. Even better, its adjustable fluid pan-and-tilt makes child's-play out of getting a good, centered view. Long story short, this tripod exceeds my expectations.

I purchased the Paragon Tripod to use with my solar telescope. Normally I mount the solar scope on my S/C using a camera mount which than makes it a tracking telescope, but setting up the S/C just for a quick look at the sun didn't make solar viewing worthwhile. The Paragon Plus is very sturdy and allows easy and smooth tracking with the PST. By the way, I thought of buying the tracking mount offered by Orion, but it has a 60 degree limit on the Azimuth.

Using it with the Orion 30x80 giant binos It is pretty large and bulky, but works very well with the binos, providing a very stable platform. I would opt for a smaller, lighter tripod if I was going to get one for field work, but for a very stable, stationary platform for binocular astronomy, you can't beat the Paragon- Plus XHD.

The tripod is a very stable and well made instrument and it holds my 25x100 binoculars where I want them. I am making a bracket to hold them and support them at the front of the binocular. Two U-shaped for the front and a hood support rod to keep them more steady.

I bought this tripod for my 25x100 binoculars a few years back. This tripod can be fully extended and still hold the 10Lbs. binoculars solidly. The detachable shoe is also a really nice feature. I have no complaints about this tripod.
