1.25in. Orion Mars Observation Eyepiece Filter Set
  • Unique set of high-performance observational filters markedly improve views of Mars.
  • Fully-coated Mars filter increases contrast to bring out subtle detail, even in smaller telescopes.
  • Extra Blue filter enhances low-contrast detail and orange filter accentuates dark surface markings.
  • You'll see the polar ice cap, subtle mare shadings, and cloud activity.
  • All filters fit 1.25" eyepieces

You may not see little green guys with antennae, but you will resolve plenty of subtle features with this Orion Mars-optimized telescope filter set. It consists of three 1.25" glass filters in threaded aluminum cells:

  1. The custom-designed Orion Mars Observation filter enhances contrast of virtually all surface features. Dielectric coatings transmit violet/blue (< 505nm) and orange/red (> 615nm) wavelengths where detail is rich, while blocking overbearing yellow/green (515nm-615nm) wavelengths. Polar icecaps appear more sharply defined, and differences in landscape shading are nicely resolved. Polar hazes and cloud cover become visible. The filter's high transmission makes it effective even in small telescopes.
  2. The Blue #82A filter really "pops" the polar icecaps and nicely highlights polar hoods and clouds.
  3. The Orange #21 filter sharpens visibility of dark surface markings and polar regions. Surface dust storms become easily visible.
  4. Set includes 3-filter case.

1.25in. Orion Mars Observation Eyepiece Filter Set
Reviewer: John Barnett
I used a 7" f/15 refractor to test the 3 filters. Mars was small, at 7.4 arc-secs, the seeing was 7 (10 scale), transparency about 4 (6 scale). The Orange #21 and the Blue#82A were most helpful to enhance albedo and polar features. I recommend them to Mars observers without reservation. However, the new "Mars" filter was a big disappointment. It failed to enhance much of anything, and the intense pink color was really off-putting.

1.25in. Orion Mars Observation Eyepiece Filter Set
Reviewer: TC
I own a Meade 2080 LNT telescope which is 80mm (3.1") entry level refractor. This telescope is able to see Mars, but the view in the eyepiece, is quite tiny. I've used the filters on several occasions, and honestly have not gained any additional clarity while viewing. The "issue", I am having is due to my scope, not the filters. They are high quality and I'm certain that when I upgrade to a larger scope I will find them useful. So if you a own a small telescope, I'll bet you'll have the same experience as me. If you have a big light bucket... don't hestitate as Mars is rapidly seperating with Mother Earth and you might to wait a couple of years to get those "WOW" views we all want
