Features

1.25in. Orion UltraBlock NB Eyepiece Filter
  • The UltraBlock is the filter for deep-sky observers located at highly light-polluted sites
  • Blocks all forms of light pollution
  • Enhances the sky presence of a significant number of fainter deep-sky objects
  • 1.25" filter

The 1.25" Orion UltraBlock Narrowband Telescope Filter is the filter for deep-sky observers located at highly light-polluted sites. Blocks all forms of light pollution — mercury vapor and sodium emission bands — while passing the critical hydrogen-beta and ionized oxygen wavelengths. With an UltraBlock telescope filter, emission and planetary nebulas "surface" from the washed out background sky. In dark skies, the UltraBlock also enhances the sky presence of a significant number of fainter deep-sky celestial objects over unfiltered and wideband-filtered views.

Wow! I finally got around to trying out this filter last night, and I could not be more pleased. Without it the Dumbell was barely visible, but with the filter is was bright and defined. Ring Nebula looked brighter than I've ever seen it. I was easily able to see the Swan and Lagoon low in the horizon over the urban skyglow. This will really add a new dimension to my observing sessions.

I observe from a suburban location 19 miles north of Philadelphia. The light pollution is nothing short of staggering. Despite this, as an enthusiastic backyard astronomer, I built a dedicated observatory to permanently house my trusty 10" Meade LX50. I spent 5 hours under the stars on an unusually clear evening on August 30. I used my tried and true O III and deep sky filters with some success but in frustration, decided to use your ultrablock light pollution filter which I had purchased about a year ago. The results were amazing. Your ad reads "you will see stuff you never thought you'd see" or something to that effect. It's an incredible understatement. Of all the targets I observed, I was unable to see the Veil and California Nebulae. Everything else was clearly visible. After the first three objects, I started calling your filter "Saint Glowbuster." It only takes three miracles to declare someone a saint. This is a great product. Thanks for giving me back the night sky. Everyone who owns a telescope should own one of these things.
