Orion Full-Aperture Glass Solar Filters
  • Designed to fit snugly over the aperture of your telescope, these optical glass filters block 99.999% of incoming sunlight, allowing you to safely observe sunspots and solar granulation in the Sun's p
  • The glass elements are machine-polished and triple-coated with nickel-chromium stainless steel for a scratch-resistant surface
  • Each filter has three nylon thumbscrews to ensure a snug fit to the front of your telescope or binocular
  • The thumbscrews complement the press-fit foam lining inside the filter's durable aluminum cell to accommodate diameters up to 1/4" smaller than the nominal size
  • A tight press fit is still required for safe solar viewing. Lifetime limited warranty

Who said you have to be in the dark to do astronomy! Turning your telescope to the Sun is fun and educational. Watch the march of giant sunspots, the clouds of glowing vapor in the photosphere, and solar "granulation" detail. But be sure to protect your precious vision with a safe Orion solar filter! Looking at the Sun without one, even for an instant, can permanently damage your eyes.

Superior to Mylar
These full-aperture optical glass filters deliver superb views of the Sun, without risk to your eyes. While more expensive than Mylar filters, Orion solar filters provide better contrast, a more natural yellow-orange—color rather than blue—and are more durable. They're ideal for photographing the Sun too.

The glass elements are machine-polished and triple-coated with an advanced nickel-chromium stainless steel alloy for a scratch-resistant surface. The filter passes only a fraction of the incoming light, rejecting harmful ultraviolet and infrared radiation.

Each filter is mounted in an aluminum cell that slide-fits over the front of your telescope. Size shown in the chart below is the ideal diameter of front of telescope; filter will fit diameters up to 1/4" smaller with foam tape liner supplied.

Orion Full-Aperture Glass Solar Filters
Reviewer: Hal Wilson
I had a chance for the first time today to look at the Sun for a long time. Lets face facts....the Sun doesn't do all that much most of the time, but when she does...you have to be ready. I watched the Sun today and nothing was very exciting...sort of watching Venus. Then On Venus the shadow of Mercury passed across and won't be back for 40 years!!! Same thing for the Sun...if something happens you have to be ready!!! I love my filter and will keep it for when something happens. You have to be prepared and this will help you. Its is a good investment to the future. It will keep one from saying "I wish I had one of those." Go ahead and invest in it. You may not use it all that often, but when the time comes...you will have it. I am glad I do!!! H
