Black 9x50 Right-Angle Correct-Image Finder Scope

The original spotting scope on my Orion
SkyQuest XT10 had taken a beating
from travelling with the scope. I was
going for a direct replacement and saw
this Right-Angle Correct-Image scope.
Wow, how convenient. No more
excessive bending to look through, and
everything is straight, not upside down.
I didn't realize how helpful that is in
tracking planets and stars. Easy to set
up and align.

I needed a right-angle finder to replace
the straight-through finder that came
with a refractor I recently acquired. The
Orion 9X50 RACI was my first choice.
It's very well built and easy to use and it
performs very well after initial alignment
and focusing. The Orion spring-loaded
finder bracket makes it a snap to sight in
and after initial setup it stays on target
even after being removed and
reinstalled many times.

Very easy to use and best of all no more
neck pain. This is a quality finder and I
use it on all my telescopes. No more
straight thru finder for me.

i bought this 90º finder scope for my
Apex 102mm mak/cass, and it's great...
using it has given me another good tool
in my search for that illusive comet i'm
always looking for......i don't really like
straight thru finders, 'cause they
sometimes cause to much weird head
bending....i'm thoroughly pleased with my
purchase....thanks again, orion....

Great contrast and star image sharpness
Maintains alignment no matter how many
times it is removed and replaced on my
scope.
4 degree visual field of view is a great
help for star hopping.
Easy to focus and stays focused.

The finder is easy to use and
the "correct-image" views are a welcome
feature. However, the crosshairs are not
rotatable, so you are stuck with using
them in the position that they come to
you. Otherwise, a great finder.

I got this finder scope because I was
tired of straining my neck with straight
through finder scopes. I also was getting
confused with reverse image. I bought
this finder scope and all my problems
were solved! Great finder scope and
suggest it to anyone looking for an
upgrade and easier viewing.

This finder is used on 2 of my scopes.
The reason I love this little scope is you
can see (in a dark sky in particular)
objects that you are looking for. And the
right angle in most cases is a
convenience except when looking near
the horizon....you may need a chair or
three step ladder or just be tall. It is
worth every bit of what it sells for.

It works well enough - there was some
fuzz on the crosshairs but that was easy
enough to remove. Even after adjusting
the focus repeatedly, the image quality
doesn't match my Orion 8x40 straight-
through finder, but...
A) it's only a finder scope
B) it doesn't hurt my neck to use it!
If you find yourself doing painful
contortions to sight objects near the
zenith, you need a RACI finder.

A good Quality Finder... What else would
you expect from an Orion product? :)

I got this finder because the red-dot
finder that came with my Celestron
Nexstar 6 requires a great deal of
stooping, squatting and squinting to
complete the initial alignment.
Checking the forums on Cloudynights.com,
I found that several people have had
success with this finder. I picked the
9x50 over the 6x30 because its 5 degree
field matches the diagrams in the books
"Celestial Delights" and "Turn Left at
Orion".
Installation is easy. Make sure you
mount the foot with the notch towards
the rear (eyepiece end) of the telescope.
Images in the finder are sharp, making
it easy to locate and center objects.
The only issue here is that the
crosshairs are hard to see. An
illuminated reticle would be better, but
Orion doesn't offer that in the
right-angle finder.
Construction appears sturdy, although
one night the diagonal and eyepiece got
loose and fell off. After I put it back
together, it seems to be fine.

Orion's 9x50 right angle finder scope
added more enjoyment to fielding my
90mm StarMax. It's a pleasure to view
targets with and the fact that it has the
ability to rotate in its mount and still
remain fixed with its crosshairs, really
makes it a must have. With a laser
pointer on one side and the 9x50 on the
other, it takes only seconds to locate
objects in the sky. Thanks Orion!

I purchased this finder scope as an add-
on for a 102mm Mak. I also purchased
a mounting base since the scope was not
an Orion. The finder scope was to
complement my red dot finder and
function as a simple scope. I epoxied
the mounting base to the scope. After
just 5 minutes of curing, I attached the
scope and went into the backyard to
align the scope using a nearby cell
tower. Alignment and focussing was a
breeze. Optics are quite nice. Mount is
very stable.

I should have purchased this a long time
ago. The images looking through this
are amazingly clear and crisp. I love
the fact the everything is right side up
and correct. No more having to figure
out the correct orientation, I just look at
my star charts once and can easily find
objects quicker. The shipping was quick
and the price was extremely reasonable.
I never thougt this product would be as
good as it is.

Just this past year after decades of
absence I returned to my childhood joy
of astronomy. A little 5" f/8 newtonian
reflector seemed like a decent place to
start...I also wanted/needed a better
finderscope than the standard 5 x 30.
That finder was only good for the
brightest of stars and gave an odd pink
color to any object. After checking
several sources for the pros opinions, I
decided that Orion's 9x50 right angle,
correct image finder was the best choice
for me. The right angle now puts my
finder close by to my main focuser. The
9x gives ample magnification and the
correct image makes it easier to
translate star charts to actual
locations while the 50mm objective
gathers significant light. It makes
positioning the main scope a breeze.
An added feature that took me a bit to
get used to, but now I really like, is
the 3 screw means of adjustment...this
one has only 2 screws while the third
position is occupied by a spring loaded
plunger. Using an eguatorial mounted
reflector sometimes means having to
rotate the main tube in the mount cradle
for sky position. This plunger makes
repositioning the finder eyepiece
a snap. Just pull back the plunger,
rotate the finder in it's mount ring and
release the plunger. And it doesn't need
realigning. External appearance and
finish quality is nice and the price
exceptionally reasonable.
