Orion EZ Finder II Telescope Reflex Sight

This is the second one I bought.
Excellent for my 80mm autoguide
scope. The deluxe model is better on a
main scope.

I will call this the "Not so EZ" Finder II
telescope reflex sight. It may be cheap,
but you get what you pay for. I don't
really recommend getting it. I own an
XT8 classic Dob and it just does not align
with my scope. Granted, if you get used
to it, it eventually gets the job done --
but its a pain to use.

I love this thing! Its so easy to use and
very accurate. I can spend more time
looking at what I want to see and less
time trying to find it.
I love the variable brightness control.
Came in handy several times already.
Simply put, this is the best finder I've
ever used. Highly recommended.

I am new to astronomy and found this sight to be
incredibly easy to use and adjust. It really helps
me line up my scope quickly and get to sky
watching.

I have found this reflex finder to be
superior to conventional magnifying
finder scopes. The purpose of a finder
scope is to avoid having to "find a needle
in a haystack" through the main
telescope. Yet, that is what I found
myself doing when using a magnifying
finder, especially when I travel to dark
skies where many more stars are
visible. I had difficulty trying to
find my
target, but not with this EZ Finder. Once
aligned with the main scope, it provides
a realistic "correct" view of the night sky
and makes locating objects much easier.

It works! Finally my ancient Meade
Schmidt-Cass is easy to point.

This red dot sight is easy to attach to
nearly any telescope and most
importantly it is accurate, easy to use
and for sale at a reasonable price.

Reliable, light, easy to mount, easy to
use, good looking, economical and
reasonably well made...those are the
good points. However, the dot is a bit
large and you have to turn the
adjustment screw many times to correct
a small elevation error. Azimuth
adjustment seems much quicker.
The large, bright dot is easy to find and
line up the eye with, but often
overwhelms the target you're trying to
aim at. The two mounting options
provided are both useful. The low mount
rail with sticky-back tape can go on
anything while the high-mount stalk will
require the correct Orion quick release
base (for more $$) for your scope. The
stalk works best on small refractors
where the e.p. can often block the finder
while the low-mount is perfect for SCTs.
A good basic finder that gets the job
done at minimum cost.

Truly easy to mount and easy to use. A
great product at a reasonable price. It
looks nice too!

At first I thought that the red dot always
moves with your eye position. This is
only true relative to the viewing window,
but not to the object that you are
sighting on. That object actually stays
centered with the red dot despite its
position within the sighting window.
Therefore I have changed my rating to 5
stars in all fairness to the product.

The review which stated the dot moves
is correct but that is the way a Heads Up
Display works. This sight is just like a
fighter jet, the dot will stay in one place
relative to the sky. To properly use it,
keep both eyes open and look through it
not at it. (I am a retired fighter wrench
and have worked with HUDs for over
twenty years, this is nothing more than
the most simple of HUD)
It is plastic, inexpensive but works.
After a little bit of tweaking I put the dot
on the star or planet and it is in the
scope, which is what the device is
designed for. Build quality is not great
but it gets the job done.

I found this sight design to be a bit
confusing. The red dot appears as stated
in the catalog over the sky, but as you
move your head from side to side you
will find that the red dot moves with you
on the screen. In order to center the dot
in line with the main scope, you will need
to hold your eye steady so that the dot is
centered. There is no other aiming
marker, which can make centering the
dot difficult with no other reference
points. Adding an aiming marker that
one could line up with the dot, or a cross
pattern on the glass screen would make
aiming faster.
