Eyeglass wearers know how frustrating it can be using binoculars. You have to take your glasses off with one hand and hold the binocular up to your eyes with the other. Then, you must lower the binocular and replace your glasses to scan the scene again with just your eyes. Playing this on-and-off game gets pretty annoying. You've tried leaving your eyeglasses on, but it's like looking through a keyhole: you can't see the whole field of view. And you've tried to get by without your glasses, but everything in the distance is too blurry.

Orion UltraViews are the answer. They are the ultimate in eyeglass- and sunglass-friendly binoculars! Their extra-long 22mm eye relief allows the full field of view to be seen with eyeglasses on, simply by retracting the twist-lock rubber eyecups. That's a real luxury!

UltraView binoculars are also long on optical quality. Made exclusively for Orion by Japan's largest manufacturer of high-quality optics, UltraViews feature the finest BAK-4 glass prisms, and lenses finely ground and polished to exacting specifications. All lens and prism air-to-glass surfaces are fully multi-coated, providing much higher light transmission than can be achieved with the standard coatings offered on most other binoculars. Colors are pure and images are tack-sharp right out to the edges. The large center focus wheel allows quick focusing with just a fingertip.

The Orion UltraView 8x42 Wide-Angle Binocular is the ideal size for birding, nature observation, and traveling. Delightfully wide 8.2° field of view. Birders also love the exceptionally close focus of 12'. 8x magnification, 7mm exit pupil, extra-long 22mm eye relief. Weighs 27 oz.

This binocular's cast alloy metal construction holds up admirably under extensive field use. Black rubber armoring protects the binocular against bumps and scratches, and finger grooves provide a sure grip.

The Orion UltraView 8x42 binocular comes with a rugged soft field case, objective lens caps, and a deluxe wide neck strap. The binocular has a threaded socket to accept a tripod adapter. Ten-year limited warranty.

Orion UltraView 8x42 Wide-Angle Binoculars

I bought these binoculars primarily for birding but I also wanted an instrument that could pull double-duty for stargazing. I have been using them for a few years and I have not been disappointed! Images are clear and bright even to the edges of the wide field of view, which is an obvious advantage for birdwatching. My eyeglass-wearing friends also appreciate the long eye-relief and twist-down eyecups. I don't wear glasses myself so I usually leave the eyecups extended, and I find them much more comfortable than most other binoculars I've used. For birdwatching, these binos are almost perfect. For astronomy, they still produce clear images, although not as good as my 8x56 due to their smaller aperture. I mainly use these when observing with friends and I find it handy to have an extra pair of binos around. In this role, these binoculars never get mounted on my tripod, which is reserved for my bigger 8x56, but their light weight makes scanning the sky a joy even by hand. All in all, if your interests lie purely in astronomy, I'd recommend a bigger binocular. However, if you want to do birdwatching or a little of both, then the quality and price of this pair is hard to beat.

Well, maybe not the color of their eyes, but when I used the Ultra view 8x42's that I sent to my daughter in New York city, I was very pleased. She and her husband live in Columbia University housing on the east side of the Hudson, about 1/4 mile south of the George Washington bridge. The view of the bridge and river traffic is marvelous, not to mention Fort Lee across the river. My point, the optics are extremely clear and the focus is 'spot-on'. Thanks for a great product Michael Tuttle

Beside the advantage of leaving my eyeglasses on because of the great eye relief, the FOV remains intact. I don't lose that split second to see the fleeting bird. No more removing my eyeglasses. Hallelujah!

I"ve had these for a couple years now and they are FAR superior to 'budget' type binocs. I compared these to several other similarly sized budget type binocs on a recent whale watching trip and these Ultraviews SOUNDLY beat them in sharpness, color, contrast, and feild of view. It's not even close. The nice wide field means you can see the entire formation at a football game as well. Don't waste your $ on a cheapo pair that you'll just want to upgrade, get these and keep 'em forever. They are that good for terrestrial use. Not bad for casual astronomy as well though I'd recommend a 10X50 at least for serious astronomy use.

Bought the Ultra View for my wife for bird watching. I asked Orion for a technical description of this and similar models. I was surprised and happy to receive a personal response from their labs. My wife is very happy with the binoculars. She prefers them over my more expensive Orion binoculars.
