At first glance it looks like a really neat kids magnifier, sadly its not very functional. When we first tried to use it we where unable to get any type of image on the screen. I took it apart to find that the mirror which sends the image to the main screen had fallen inside the unit. I corrected the problem and although you could not see an image on the main screen, you can only see a very dim outline of the object you are trying magnify. Focusing is not very precise and easy to lose. All in all I would recommend skipping this item and purchasing a standard optical microscope instead.

This was the most disappointing thing my kids have ever got for Christmas. This is a JOKE. You can see "shadows" if you can even call them that of things you put in under the slides. My kids got this from their grandfather, who buys them GREAT things. They opened it, played with it for 30 minutes, insisted it must be broken, because no way would grandpa buy them something THIS terrible, only to find out it worked correctly. This was a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE waste of money. My kids (by the way, they are 7 and 11 years) have not touched it since, and have said to tell Grandpa it broke so they don't hurt his feelings. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE Microscope.
