Overall for the money, this telescope is easily one of the best values out there. It is a simplistic dobsonian package that provides the minimum for the amateur astronomer. Performance with the device has been great so far. As a newbie to this hobby I am working through the Messier list and none of the views have been disappointing.

Big, But managable!!! Nice wide field of view. Even with a full moon you see so many more stars. Get a moon filter, much too bright. Stock red dot finder is amazing!

I didnt expect to be so pleased to write a review. This is a lot of awsome scope for the money! It was easy to assemble, no need to adjust the mirrors once I got it. Simple to use! When I first tried it, it was a little foggy outside. But, I could still see red and orange bands on Jupiter. I am excited to try the moon. It is capable of so much more with different lenses. I realy want a Barlow lens now so I can double the power. I recommend this to anyone who does not mind a big heavy Scope, wants to have a miniature observatory in there backyard and enjoys hunting down thoes deep space beauties. It is also just big enough to fit in the trunk of my car!

I have been the proud owner of my scope for alittle over 2 years now. Starting with the Astroview 6EQ, I quickly developed "aperature fever". This scope was the best purchase I've ever made. I am continually in awe by its performance! Bagging the more common Messier (M1, M13, M27, M31, M32, M42, M57, M81 and M82) objects is consistently easy with the large aperature and the oversized 9x50RA finder. But getting the lesser know and harder to see stuff is also well within my reach. Living near Phialdelphia, I have alot of light pollution. Even with the city near to my south I have still picked up M8, M16, M17 and M20! The views of the planets are also unbelievable! During Mars' 2007 opposition I was clearly able to pick up Syrtis Major and a polar cap as well as other smaller less significant features with regularity. My first night out with the new scope I caught a transit of Europa in front of Jupiter. The shadow was small, yet clear as a bell. The GRS is well defined and Saturn's Cassinni Division shows up clearly (both visually and in images). When in the same field of view I can pick out 6 or 7 moons. The balance of the scope is perfect and extremely smooth to track. It cools down quickly (with a fan) enough to start observing inside 10 minutes. I have since bought an equatorial platform for astrophotography for the scope. I regularly use magnification over 400x and have even gone to 600x with good results. I thought long and hard about the scope I wanted and was confident when I finally made my purchase. If you want a great scope to pick out DSO's with ease, this is the scope for you.

Pros: Easy to assemble, accurate optics (good resolution of objects), very stable Dobsonian mount Cons: Large and heavy instrument (plan ahead to set-up, collimate, and equilibrate to ambient temp), eyepiece rack is not included (are the bean counters taking over Orion?!), Fed-Ex punched a hole in side of shipping container (no visible damage to scope...this time), EZ Finder II reflex scope is IMO of poor quality, pointer is too bright, and confusing to use at first (I removed the 6X26 mm correct image a REAL FINDER SCOPE from my XT4.5 and found objects immediately, again...are the bean counters taking over Orion?!) All in all...despite the cons...a very sound instrument. I've observed the following notable objects since first light in June 2009 from my often cloudy, light polluted neighborhood: M57, Lyra epislon (impressive double-double), Ablerio (beautiful blue and gold binary), M13, M56, Black eye galaxy, Jupiter and it's moons (easily observed atmospheric bands w/o filter).

I'm an intermediate-level stargazer, and I started looking for a catadioptric because I figured that was the "next step." But I really wanted a larger aperture than those offered and for less $. I also like the Dobsonian mount for how easy it is to maneuver around. Eventually I'll get an equatorial-mounted SC too, but I doubt I'll ever really "outgrow" this one. I also thought I needed a fancy computer, but I've never owned a motorized scope before and been just fine. Why get one now? I'm told that they aren't all that reliable anyway-better to put the $150 towards better optics. It came promptly and was easy to get set up. I'm really enjoying the computer program. It has lots of spiffy features I don't care about but it's great to use for basic locating and identifying. The scope is easy to collimate and I had no trouble aligning the finder scope. The downside is its bulkiness, but you know that's what you're getting in a large reflector. I wish that it had come with a second eyepiece, but we collect eyepieces according to our preferences anyway. I was able to see Jupiter's four big moons and cloud bands easily. I also picked up Neptune, a few nebulae (but not much color due to light pollution), a few clusters, and great moon views. BUT the large aperture gives you big-time moon washout. Put on a filter! And all of this was in the city. I can't wait to take it out away from lights and see more.

Got my XT10 classic several weeks ago. It's a huge scope, but I expected that. I'm glad I have an SUV to take it out to the countryside. Along with the 25mm Plossl it comes with, I also got a 3x barlow. This scope is great, you will not be disappointed. Saturn and Jupiter at 144x were clear and sharp, with cloud detail. I even found the sombrero galaxy on my first night. The ez finder 2 works great for me, I've seen some less than positive things about it but I haven't had a problem locating objects with it and a little star-hopping. Focuser is crisp. A couple negatives- moving this scope is LOUD. The springs on the tube clang and the Dob base knocks like crazy. I will remedy that. The Dob base could be made a little better, movement could be less sticky, but some simple mods will solve that. If you have the means, I would highly recommend this scope. Grab some higher power eyepieces while you're at it.

I'm new to astronomy and this is my first telescope but I am really impressed with it. It's amazing how well the Dobsonian mount works and how easy it is to use. It's very smooth and steady. Since this is my first telescope I don't have anything to compare it to but the views are amazing! I'm very glad I bought this telescope.

I am hoping that you will pass this message on to everyone there. I am the very proud owner of the Orion XT 10 Classic dob and may I just say wow! It's not only well made, it's beautiful and almost perfectly collimated right out of the box. The smoothness of the focuser is first rate, as well as the 9 x 50 correct image finder(purchased separately, but well worth it). It was a breeze to assemble, but it is a large light bucket so I recommend an aluminum folding dolly for ease of transport. I found one at Harbor Freight for under $40. On my first night out, we had partly cloudy skies, but right after dark a clearing shown in the southwest and there she was, Venus. My other scopes did not do her justice. Features jumped out at me and I literally gasped. Now here I am with this stupid grin on my face and giggling out loud. So, obviously I turned it strait to the Orion Nebula. Seemed fitting. By the Power of Greyskull! What a sight. It didn't even look real. The light gathering ability of a well made, large scope is something I would recommend to everyone. Thank you for allowing me to ramble. Sincerely John Odell "An Orion patron for life"

Everything was fantastic- (Customer Service) was excellent during the order process. The 'scope Flew to our house (ordered Monday night, had it assembled and in use Wednesday night). The telescope is fantastic- collimated right out of the box- no adjustment necessary. Set up was easy and fast. Everything went together well, no problems. One correction: this is not a light bucket. This is a Light Vacuum! The sites! The Stars! now, all we need is a clear night and no other pressing matters to attend to and we are Set! Thank You for bringing the Universe into our back-yard! (only caveats- the eyepiece rack was optional- expected that it was included, though no indication that it would be. Also, the guide knob is no longer included with scope- really should be, much more convenient. I had tested an older model, thus the expectations. But no disappointments!)

I have never been so happy with a telescope! I first got interested in astronomy a few years ago,and I have upgraded ever since. When I decided to buy myself a good-quality, large-aperture telescope, this telescope soared above the rest. I got it shipped from California all the way to British Columbia, Canada, and it arrived in perfect condition. Everything was in tact...then I got to putting it together. Within an hour it was fully assembled, though I had to wait for the clouds to clear before I could take it outside! When I took that first look through my scope at Jupiter, I was so happy!! This is such a wonderful telescope that continues to perform amazingly well with nebulae, globular clusters, galaxies, planets, the moon, and more...I would recommend this telescope to anyone. Their Ultrablock Filter is also an asset that will make your observing sessions so much easier. Don't hesitate or think about buying a smaller telescope, because this is simply the best telescope, especially for the great price!! Thank you so much Orion!

I just bought the scope about a week ago and I must say this scope is perfect. The sky around my house is not always the best for viewing and even in less than perfect conditions the scope performs better than I thought it would I would recommend this scope for anyone who is looking to buy a scope you will be happy that you did.

I've been an astronomy enthusiast for twenty years. Naturally, I was excited when my son took a sudden interest. So for his thirteenth birthday, I decided to go shopping for a telescope. I wanted something portable. Something well suited for a beginner, yet something he could grow into. But it also had to be something affordable. I've known Orion's excellent reputation for many years but had never purchased any of your products. Until now! When I saw the Orion SkyQuest XT10 Classic Dob and the low price tag that came with it, I knew this was the one. It was everything I was looking for. I ordered it! It was shipped promptly and arrived very well packed and unharmed. If anyone is considering purchasing this scope, stop thinking about it....do it now! You can't go wrong! The images through the XT10 are crisp and clear. My son and I have experienced beautiful views of the moon, planets and MANY faint deep sky objects. And this is all with standard equipment. Orion has without a doubt earned my business. Now if I can just talk my son into coming indoors at night!

I received my scope in just about 3 days from when I ordered it, got it set up in about an hour (including collimation) and took it out to test it on some day-time objects. The views of some fir-cones several miles away came in very clear so I pushed the power to the top of what I had in the way of eyepieces (470x) and it was beautiful. That evening I got a nice view of Jupiter and its moons and since they were low on the horizon- for my area, I could not push it that high, but still was very impressed with the size of Jupiter and the hints of color on the moons. M13 was spectacular! It sparkled like many diamonds and was huge in the eyepiece. All-in-all, I would rate this Dobby very high. Even the simple mounting was extremely steady--very nice. Congrats to Orion for a great and inexpensive high quality telescope!

I absolutely love this telescope. It is the scope I will keep the rest of my life and if something happens to it I'll just order another one. The optics are great. The fast focal length provides pleasing bright images. The instructions on how to set up and collimate the scope are well written and easy to follow. If you are new to the hobby I cannot recommend a better company than Orion for your first scope or binoculars. Orion's customer service is the best out there should you need it. Returning an item is trouble free.
