Product Specifications:
|
Astro-imaging capability
|
Lunar and planetary |
The astro-photographic capability of the telescope is based on the style, stability, and accuracy of the mount and tripod. Telescopes on either very lightweight mounts or non tracking mounts (such as Dobsonians) are capable of only very short exposures such as lunar photographs. If a motor drive is attached to an equatorial mount, even a small lightweight mount is capable of capturing some planetary detail. Larger EQ mounts that utilize very precise tracking and excellent stability are capable of longer exposure deep-sky photography.
|
Weight rating
|
7 lbs. |
The weight rating is a measure of how much the mount can handle before vibration become excessive. This specification is dependent on the shape of the telescope. For example, if you have two telescopes that both weigh 15 lbs., but one is a Cassegrain with a very short tube and the other is a very long focal length refractor, the Cassegrain will be more stable due to the fact that the tube itself is much shorter. The extra length of the refractor tube acts as a "lever arm" and vibrations become much more prominent. So be careful as you approach the weight capacity limit that you don't overload the mount with a very long tube.
|
Dovetail bar system
|
No |
A universal attachment system for holding the optical tube onto the tripod. A dovetail bar is attached to the tube rings, then it slides onto the mount itself, making for quick assembly and disassembly.
|
Motor drive compatibility
|
Clock drive sold separately |
A motor drive automatically moves the telescope in right ascension at the same rate as the east-west drift of the stars so stars can be continuously tracked in the eyepiece without manual adjustment. Motor drives are usually equipped with a hand control that allows the telescope's tracking speed to be slightly increased or decreased, which is particularly critical when taking long-exposure astro-images.

Latitude range
|
9-72 |
The latitude range refers to the usable range on the EQ mount's latitude axis. If you live above or below the latitude specified, the mount may not be able to polar align properly because of interference with the counterweight shaft or the polar axis housing.

Diameter of counterweight shaft
|
12mm |
|
Height range of mount/tripod
|
32.50 in. - 54.75 in. |
The height range specification is a measure of the tripod itself - not the eyepiece height. Since telescopes come in all shapes and sizes, the eyepiece height will vary, even when using the same tripod. For an EQ tripod the mount is set up so the counterweight shaft is horizontal, and then the height is measured from the ground to the center of the mounting plate.

This mount is very well built and very
steady for smaller scopes. I've viewed
Jupiter and its moons, our moon and
several other objects. The slow motion
controlls are excellent. There can't be a
better mount for the price! Thanks again

I originally got the Min EQ-1 mount when
I bought my Apex 90 Mak Cass. Very
portable and easy transporting around.
But I decided I also needed one I could
stand on the ground. So I stuck with the
EQ-1 mount only with the tripod set up.
Whether Tabletop or Tripod this mount is
very stable and well built and suits my
Apex 90,Short tube 80 and Starblast 4.5
Imaging Reflector. Thank You For
Everything Orion!

Excellent product for small scopes. I
purchased it for a PST and it works great!
I always enjoy Orion's quality and service
as well. Thank you Orion :)

This is my first experience with an
equatorial mount, and I'm not
disappointed. It arrived well packaged
and with all the parts. I assembled it
in an hour and mounted my Celestron
... 80 on it, and used it that
night. It makes a handy "grab and go "
scope, great for viewing the moon and
planets. I've seen the Orion Nebula, and
watched the moons of Jupiter change
position every clear night. I gave it
five stars because I really don't think
there is a better mount out there for
the money. Thanks Orion!

I got this mount about 7 years ago with
my ST-80 scope. It handles that scope
very well and is very light and easy to
handle.
A friend of mine uses this mount with a
114 reflector with impressive results.
Great mount as long as you don't
overload it!
