I thought this focuser was pretty pricy at first. Technically it is, but the price here is completely competitive, so Orion cannot be faulted on that. I don't know anything about what happens to it in extreme cold situations, living in California, but this has never failed for me. As others have said, this is a "must have" add-on to your scope. I was getting very frustrated with focusing on planets, for visual, and for photography. Focusing without jiggling the camera at f26? Forget about it, without this device. My only problem, and this does annoy me actually, quite a bit, is the double sided tape on the Velcro setup for the controller. How many times have I left the device plugged in and attached to the scope, to find it dangling by its cord with both sides of the Velcro left either on the telescope, or on the hand controller. So far it seems to stick back on, but I imagine that won't be forever!

I adapted this to another brand 102mm f/11 refractor. I didn't expect it to be a bolt-on (and it wasn't) but the adaptation only took an hour or so and the results are well worth it! I used to get a lot of jiggles in the EP when focusing, now it's rock solid. Battery life is very good and it's quiet as a mouse.

Have mine mounted on an Orion 150mm f8.0 (#09896) reflector. Should have just bought it when I purchased the scope. IMHO this is a "must have" accessory. It will definitely make your stargazing efforts far more enjoyable.

This has been a total train wreck. Bought AccuFocus 07395 for X10 original focuser and it worked well until it got cold. Then it just wouldn't work when temperatures dropped below 25F. Purchased the Crayford Focuser 08881 and Starshoot 52080. Focusing is almost impossible because every time you touch the focuser, the telescope jiggles. The AccuFocus seemed to be the answer. Bought the bracket needed to use with the Crayford and the instructions referred to parts as being included with the AccuFocus but none of them were there. Spent 3 weeks waiting for a coupling - one got lost in the mail. Then Step 8 says to "Place silver washers onto two of the black philips head screws that were included with the AccuFocus". AGAIN - NOT INCLUDED ANYWHERE. If six months ago someone would tell me this would happen, I would not have believed it of Orion. Total disappointment all around. Giving up!! Total waste of money and renders the camera almost unusable!

Hi Highpoints: *very easy to install *very good documentation *inexpensive Lowpoints: *Relatively slow rotation at max speed *poor implimentation to disengage focuser so one can use the knobs Summary: Very happy with this purchase despite its shortfalls. Testing the rotational speed, I used my Orion 80mm ED APO. From max infocus to max outfocus, the accufocus extended the focus tube in 66 seconds with the scope at approx looking up at °40 (some gravity assisting the focuser) which is quite long. To disengage it and use the knobs, one needs a hex wrench to loosen a setscrew. I think a thumbscrew would have been a better option but perhaps there's a reason they couldn't. Its an excellent deal for the $$.
