MicroXplore PC200 Digital Handheld Scope

The camera work beautifully and the
camera controls are clear and
straightforward. That being said the
software installation process is
unnecessarily complicated - requiring a
software upgrade and driver search and
load before the screen would even
recognise the camera none of which is
not covered in the manual and is
confusing for us old timers. For the price,
the packaged software should be current
and mindless to install. The microscope
stand is useless and a switch to turn off
the LED illumination would be great so
the microscope can be used as a zoom-
high powered eyepiece for planetary
video imaging. An adapter sleeve to
couple the microscope to a 2 inch
eyepiece hole to fit into the telescope
eyepiece holder would be a nice addition
and value

LOVE IT! I bought the stand as well
since slight movements blur the view.

Never was able to get operational due to
software driver problems. Neither Orion
or manufacturer could help. Finally
quit trying.

The name "microscope" is a misnomer
because it leads the user to believe that
it can be used to "point and magnify" a
target just as you would a regular
microscope or "loop". This device is
much too powerful and movement
sensitive for that. The need for
additional equipment is needed for
optimal use of this instrument and the
Dinocapture feature. My particular use
for this handheld scope requires me to
not use it as "handheld". I use a test-
tube ringstand and test-tube holder to
stablize the "handheld" so that I can also
view my PC monitor and initialize the
Dinocapture feature. To attempt to do
all of this without some way to hold
the "handheld" steady is to invite a blurr
or to "capture" the wrong area of
interest. The on-CD operating
instructions are incomplete in that there
are options that you are to exercise
which require deeper knowledge that is
revealed in the Dinocapture software. I
am favorably impressed with the
advanced technical aspects of this
instrument, but it is not as operator
friendly as I expected it to be.

Great little device, the only complaint i
have is that it has only to main focus
points while in the cradle 50 and 200x
+/_ the rest of focus points you must
hold it and that can become tedious...

As a quality control person I'm always
looking for tools that'll make my job
easier, and this item does just that! It
allows me to get up close and personal
with the parts I'm working with and it's
a breeze to install and work with.
Thanks Orion!

I think the PC200 scope is designed
appropriately for a handheld unit. It has
the right magnification range for a
handheld as well as the range of usable
view width, and the image that it
produces is clear. I do not however like
the software. It functions okay, but it
makes me suspicious that, to record a
snapshot, my computer has to be
connected to the Internet.
(Note from Orion: Internet connectivity
is not required when taking or saving
images.)

I was dissapointed with the quality of the
image as well as the difficulty of focusing.

This product did exactly what I want it to
do and at a good price. For ease of
operation I adapted it to an adjustiable
mount.

This device is easy to use and easy to
install on a computer. One accessory
that would make it easier to use would
be some kind of stand to hold it, rather
than holding it in your hand. The reason
for this is that at the higher levels of
magnification, it is sometimes difficult to
hold it steady enough to permit sharp
pictures being captured by your
computer. Other than this, I think it is a
very useful tool.
